Sydney punters were not left out either with DELIGHTFUL FEELING winning at Rosehill and he paid an amazing $9!

Racing was at CAULFIELD on Saturday for a huge Cup Day and the track was GOOD, the rail was 6m, and the track itself played very well, the most telling factor here was the wind, there was s significant headwind ‘’down the side’’ so from around the 800m-to-400m if you were facing the breeze you were in strife! Only ONE winner led all day.
It was quite tight this week but you voted for SCOTTISH (38% of the vote) over JAMEKA and hard to argue… SCOTTISH was a hue run in the Cup after being tardy away he worked up to be fourth at the 1600m mark then pressed on to lead at the 1200m, he faced that breeze from that point until the line and, yeah, enormous effort !
Hard to pot the win of JAMEKA though, she overraced for about 1600m but found a good spot, she joined in strongly and powered to the line (third straight time she has been as strong as anything over the wire) and won by 3L. EXOSPHERIC kept closing and sustained closing speed (47.42 last 800m/ 12.15 last 200m), winner Jameka was 47.2 for last 800m (last 200m 12:05). ALMOONQITH was held-up turning then rushed home in a lovely Melb Cup trial, his 11.92 last 200m was race-fastest. REAL LOVE was next and super tough/ genuine given she was ridden bit upside/down! OUR IVANHOWE ran home 12.16 and was sound, he just wants some rain! VENGEUR MASQUE should have finished closer, he was behind a wall until inside the 200m yet ran 12.19 home and DE LITTLE ENGINE (12.27) went super for easier. Time: 2-28.88 off 1-53.16 1st-1800m split, for the record, last year Mongolian Khan ran 2-27.76 off 1-52.45 1st-1800m in a high-rating year but given the wind this day, it is tough to compare.
To Race 9 and OUR BOY MALACHI was slow out and sat back wide with cover then ran over them all, his 11.26 last 200m was the day’s fastest and he gave runner-up FAATINAH 3kg, he ran well though, FAATINAH given he was up outside lead facing the breeze and LANKAN RUPEE pleased everyone I fancy, held-up a touch (and it is tough to quicken with 61kg !!) then battled very well when the gap came. ORUJO went super for easier. WILD RAIN was just fair today and watch RUETTIGER for something easier, he was held-up then hot the line super! His 11.61 last split was bettered only by the winner. They ran 57.72 for 1000m off 34.95 1st-600m.
Back to Race 2 and wow, was this a messy event! Slow early speed (1st-800m 50.20) and winner PEACOCK had nice run in behind leaders with cover, he secured inside runs and just lasted over VIOLATE who swung wide and powered late off that slow speed, his 11.66 was race-fastest. ACATOUR was arguably ridden a bit close and he did face breeze up second, he went well. VALLIANO led and battled well. MORTON’S FORK was a horror watch for those on, INSIDE AGENT worked home well remembering on-pace runners here ran 1st, 3rd, 4th. Time: 1-25.86
Race 4 was the Ethereal and ELEANORA had the sweet run and joined in at the right time to win quite well, in saying that, TIAMO GRACE was a good thing licked, shuffled back, checked straightening then flew at the wire in 11.80, clear race-fastest. SAVVAN did some early work, took over straightening and was only collared 100m out, he went very well. MOQUEEN was sound. SEBRING DREAM was set a task, she ran 12.11 home despite being forced very wide from mile back. They went 1-16.42 early and ran 2-05.31 overall for 2000m
The other 3yo 2000m race was G2 Caulfield Classic and GOOD STANDING led in 1-15.85 (so a good 3L quicker than Ethereal), steadied then gave a huge kick, he held on and the win had plenty of merit given he was the only leader to win all day! ROCKETEERwas shuffled back a touch midway then rushed through running 11.58 home. INFERENCE also ran home well (11.66). Love the run of BEACH LIFE who was asked to sustain a long, wide run with no trail into it, he kept coming! Time: 2-04.37 so around 6L quicker overall than Ethereal.
The Coongy was run at a strong speed. 1-12.74 1st-1200m means The Cleaner and TOM MELBOURNE would have been leading Good Standing some 18 Lengths with 600m to run, Tom Melbourne’s effort to run .5L second and gap third some 3L was excellent. Winner VANBRUGH had the right run but loved the chase out to 2000m. IT’S SOMEWHAT didn’t quicken with 59kg and raced tight before working home quite well, there were good gaps behind this race and certainly trusting the form. They ran slick 2-02.17 on the day.
The Tristarc was Race 7 and the class of FIRST SEAL shone through, she gave them weight, sat off them and rounded them up running 1-25.14 off 49.97 1st-800m, she nailed leader TYCOON TARA (had easy lead but faced breeze/ she made winner really work to beat her and was gallant). PEARLS sat 1-1 and gave her all beating DENMAGIC (had chance) for third, best closer was DANISH TWIST who ran home 11.44 off that modest tempo from to far back, winner was 11.47 for the record. No shock the Sydney-siders ran 1,2,3,4,5 here…. Best of locals was FRENCH EMOTION who was, sound, but no match, home 11.51.
SYLPHEED (worked early into wind), SKYLIGHT GLOW (wide/ no cover), RATHER SILKY (bled), EXILIA MISS (luckless), MORTON’S FORK (stiff !), TRENCHANT (no luck again), MOUNT PANORAMA (never clear), NIKITAS (4-wide/ no cover), SIMPLY INVINCIBLE (also wide), CHLOE IN PARIS (little room), FLIPPANT (checked badly straight), ALMIGHTY GIRL (about to launch when luck ran out), BELSAPPHIRE (also luckless), TIAMO GRACE (as mentioned), SEBRING DREAM (ditto), AROHATA (wide), VON RICHTER (bad check), HIGHLAD (too wide), LARRIKIN (amiss), SHILLELAGH (nearly fell), SIR ISAAC NEWTON (pulled too hard), REAL LOVE (mentioned), VENGEUR MASQUE (mentioned), RUETTIGER (only clear very late/ good), VIDDORA (no luck), DAN ZEPHYR (3-wide) and HOPFGARTEN (clear too late/ ran well).
There was some quality any RANDWICK on Saturday. Track was GOOD rail True and there looked to be no mad pattern/ bias evident.
Straight to SPIETH and his win in the last, it was excellent, he blew the start, recovered then was in traffic before working clear and powering at the line running 33.45 last 600m doing it. He heads to Melbourne. Runner-up KAEPERNICK charged home (ridden colder!) and bake 33-last 600m, he has group-class closing speed no worries. LE CORDON BLEU went back from bad gate but ran home almost as well as Kaepernick, good ! NINTH LEGION with his weight was a pleasing return here. They ran 1-3.24 off a solid 28.49 1st-500m
Race 8 saw the classy EGYPTIAN SYMBOL prove too strong, she was well ridden rolling forward early on modest tempo (36.34 1st-600m) and broke away to beat ARTISTRY who had covered ground, she kept closing and was backed here fresh-up. In for good prep! RULE THE RIVER was a sound third and doubt things played out ideal for her however she was up near that modest tempo. KIMBERLEY SRAR and ONEMOREZETA closed well. Time: 1-10.61.
The 1200m race for 3yo’s prior (race 7) was won impressively by SPRIGHT in a sizzling 1-8.79. So how do they run 1.82 (near 10L) faster then Egyptian Symbol? Well, these leaders went hard, in fact they scorched along 33.24 1st-600m so would have had roughly 18L on those girls mid race… Wow! Loved the win though! STAR OF MONSOON from the tail ran home hard as did FARAWAY TOWN from way back and wide, no shock the swoopers dominated this one. GUARD OF HONOUR Was best of those nearer the speed, good run! EL DIVINO worries me…
MAGICUS (no room/ he lives in this file), CAPED CRUSADER (lame/ amiss), SOUCHEZ (didn’t pan out right), SLIGHTLY SWEET (tempo dead-against/ ran race-fastest 11.12 home), SAVOUREUX (back and wide), FITOU (blew start), NANCY (pulled stupidly), THAT’S A GOOD IDEA (wide), FINE MIST (wider), KINGLIKE (bled).
- Gator

“So, Gator, had Hellbent run and won (like it would have), you would have picked the Big-6 IN ONE…”

Yep… That’s right, Gator was on fire on Caulfield Cup day from Race 5 he went: GOOD STANDING, VANBRUGH, FIRST SEAL (great value), JAMEKA (and had the Cup trifecta straight-out) and VOODOO LAD…. All on top !

Oh, and his best bet of the weekend EGYPTIAN SYMBOL won easily at Randwick too…

ON FIRE !!!! Get on board now ???

For G1 subscribers there WILL BE A G1 EMAIL this week on Wednesday for Caulfield and Blue Sapphire Stks Day so keep an eye on the in-box.
Racing was at CAULFIELD for Guineas Day on GOOD track with rail back True. Many predicted the fence would be a no-go zone however the track played quite well. In sprint races it seemed an advantage to stay off the inside rail to the turn. Seven of the ten winners settled in the first few spots, two others drew gate 1 and sat just off the speed.
With 53% of your vote (join the conversation each week @gatorgately on twitter) it was STAR TURN and hard to argue with this result. He sat with the leaders 3-wide in a near line of 4 and jockey Craig Williams could not hold him any slower! He tracked up and took over under  ahold then sprinted away from genuine G1 horses running a slick 1-2.89 on a day they were not running sizzling times.
The leaders went 28.78 1st-500m (solid) and STAR TURN ran 11.19 400m-to-200m then 11.90 homier a dominant display! He was very well backed also. Runner-up MALAGUERRA sat off-speed deep and closed strongly into clear second (home 12.01) with FELL SWOOP third (12.13), he got onto the back of Star Turn but was left ‘standing’ when winner kicked, worth noting though, he did get away from the others in quite good style. OCEAN EMBERS kept closing from the back running 12.06 home. TURN ME LOOSE was run off his legs at 1100m but ran 12.16 home so warmed up quite nicely.
To the G1 action and the Caulfield Stks looked a barrier trial for WINX and it was, loved the fight of BLACK HEART BART though, he just never gave it up! For the record: Out 1-17.89 1st-1200m and ran 2-03.42 winner ran 56.83 last 1000m !!
R7 was Thousand Guineas and GLOBAL GLAMOUR was simply too good for them! She led in 49.49 1st-800m (or .7 slower than males (Evacuation)) so she would have been around 4L off Evacuation at the halfway point if both races were run together, she left the rail then kicked in strongly. In fact, she actually recorded the fastest last 200m split of any runner (11.52) despite others having cosier early runs, safe to say, she was simply too good!! Great training effort to back-up 7-days and travel interstate it should be noted. I AM A STAR was runner-up and she came from midfield and railed through, her 22.71 last 400m was race-fastest but she was 4th-fastesdt (equal) her last 200m running 11.62. WHISPERING BROOK was every hope but gave her all, her 11.62 last 200m matched that of I Am A Star. FOXPLAY was a touch awkward on the bend then did find the line nicely (11.53 last 200m) with HARLOW GOLD next (kept closing without threat – ran 11.63 home). SEBRING DREAM ran 11.58 and is looking for 2000m it seems. They ran 1-36.84
R8 for the boys and DIVINE PROPHET had the economical run gate 1, squeezed through and had to be tough late, he was! He ran 1-36.51 off 48.8 1st-800m so leader here EVACUATION would have been around 3L in front of Great Esteem (led in Toorak) and 4L in front of the girls (as mentioned) 800m out. SEABURGE rushed home in race-fastest 23.03/ 11.77 and ran by IMPENDING (sound – home 12.03) with HEY DOC splitting those after sitting midfield with cover, he hit the lead 200m out but was just no match for the quinella late. SO SI BON was ‘’stopped’’ when building momentum then picked-up and hit them line sweetly, gee he ran well, he still managed an 11.93 home. There was 2.7L over the first eight home here.
R9 was the Toorak and HE’S OUR ROKKII traveled strongly behind the 49.36 1st-800m speed, the run came, he didn’t ‘’explode’’ but built his momentum strongly to wear down leader GREAT ESTEEM who was well-rated. TIVACI had his cjamce but was sound in third with ROYAL RAPTURE fourth despite sitting up outside the leader without cover, worth noting, his trainer had consistently spoken of his need to ‘’get cover’’ or he races to keen, he held on well. The first four here were all nearer the speed, AWESOME ROCK was the best closer, he ran 12.12 late into fifth (only winner 12.07 was faster) and he did have 58kg. BON AURUM wasnt quite as strong at 1600m (12.37 home) but another sound effort from him, COUNTERATTACK is better suited 1400m also. They ran 1-36.18 and you’d expect race to ‘’rate’’ better than two 3yo events, and it did.
Back to R5 and SHEIDEL controlled the race, she sat up on 34.33 1st-600m and dug in well to beat SILENT SEDITION who is part of this strong 4yo mares crop and her return was good. A LOTTA LOVE charged home in clear race-fastest 11.56 and is ready to win. RAVI came with her after being forced wide on the bed and went 11.69 home, AMERISTRALIA measured up well in a race she couldn’t win at the weights, these five had 2.8L of spare on the sixth horse SECRET AGENDA who was a bit disappointing. Winner was backed heavy and ran 1-9.04 for 1200m.
HEAR THE CHANT was really the only swooping winner and she won R3 in 1-9.76 off 34.57 1st-600m, in fact this race, the trifecta were all wide with cover… and a stack of forgive runs behind them!
PLATINUM (mucous detected), BANTER (bucked early!), PRINCE OF PENZANCE (injured), PROMPT RESPONSE (heavy bump key stage), SELENIA (wide on-pace), BRULEE (was closing when luck ran out!), ANGHARAD (no luck entire straight), STOP MAKING SENSE (internal bleed), COLDSTONE (wide), EXCLUSIVE LASS (wide), MISS GUNPOWDER (lame), LA LUNA ROSSA (slow recovery), LEOTIE (ditto), SAMARA DANCER (covered ground), LEGLESS VEUVE (issues), GOOD STANDING (wide/ good), SO SI BON (as mentioned), JACQUINOT BAY (4-wide), MISS ROSE DE LAGO (3-wide), THE MONSTAR (wide on-speed), HUCKLEBUCK (not much room!).
In Sydney it was RANDWICK on GOOD-3 track with rail 6m. It was a day of fast time and fast closing sectionals but there was no mad pattern/ bias evident.
To the G1 and YANKEE ROSE was backed heavy late given she was, arguably, a better ran than Global Glamour in The Flight Stks (gap 3rd) and that filly had just won G1 Thousand Guineas fifteen mins earlier, she took some winding up from off midfield but that last 100m or so she was going ‘’two to their one’’ and the closing splits back that up, she ran 33.14 last 600m and an 11.14 last 200m, these splits were dominant in the context of the race. She ran 2-02.43 off a 1-27.51 1st-1400m, she did run significantly faster than older male Broadside for the 2000m earlier in the day, however, in this race they went roughly 7L faster that first 1400m so be careful there. SWEAR had every hope but kept closing and tipped out PRIZED ICON for second spot, both had every chance. VELADEROsat second and HONEYWINE sat one-one, both were close-up, in fact only 1.8L covered these five with 2.3l gap to the rest. RETALIATION is worth a mention though for further, he was second-fastest home (11.33) and went over the line nicely. For record: PRIZED ICON was 11.38 and SWEAR 11.44
G3 Angst Stks was Race 8 and smart mare DIXIE BLOSSOMS was far too good, she went back, she weaved though and once gaps came the race was over for her rivals, she scooted home sub-33 last 600m (32.97) and went 10.65 400m-to-200m before near 11-flat last 200m, she can come to Vic and win a decent race. She ran slick time of 1-34.01 off 59.83 1st-1000m and beat LADY LE FAY (had the run/ sound) and HAPPY HANNAH (made good ground through on inside) with EXTENSIBLE (good late out wider – home 11.19) fourth.
GOODFELLA (very green/ hung/ did hit line/ has ability!), HIPPARCHUS (ran out of room), MURPHY’S DELIGHT (on heels 550m/ made good ground), ZANBAGH (back/wide/ ran well for wetter), TAILEVENT (not much rom), LUNAR RISE (wide no cover).
- Gator
All ratings for CAULFIELD are for GOOD track. Rail is back True. Was 13m last week and winners were well off that inside section. Expecting level playing field with no disadvantage to those off the rail later in the day.
In Sydney we are back at RANDWICK and ratings are for GOOD track. Rail out 6m, the last 6m spot was early September and track was very wet, there was no mad pattern that day however most avoided being hard on that inside rail as day wore on.
CAULFIELD – Race 8 No.2 - IMPENDING - Good in high-rating Golden Rose then to 1500m with blinkers on and came from behind Divine Prophet to beat him running terrific closing splits. Will eat 1600m. Top-rater.
RANDWICK – Race 8 No.7 - DIXIE BLOSSOMS - Lovely return then badly blocked 2nd-up (had bit to give) before beating all-bar Tycoon Tara in Golden Pendant, she had high class girls behind her in First Seal and Heavens Above (latter just ran well in an Epsom) and mile no issue for her. The race ‘’rated’’ much better than Extensible’s race that day. Keen runs well.
RANDWICK – Race 9 No.6 –  BRIGADOON RISE - Luckless fresh and she was backed. Made ground on Takedown before spell and back to 85 class. From draw they can sit closer here.
CAULFIELD – Race 5 No.4 –  SHIEDEL - Sat wide and finished with Wild Rain and Heatherly fresh, they both then beat Chautauqua in G1. Led and beat all-bar freak winner Hellbent here last time. Well-weighted to mares this scale.
RANDWICK – Race 4 No.2 - GAMBLED - Blinkers back on last time and he led/won when only 2nd-up. Won two mile races last prep by aggregate 7.8L. Leads here? Looks silly odds $16.
Lay Of The Day:
CAULFIELD – Race 9 No.3 - BON AURUM - Have to take him on here up in weights at 1600m at the early price.
Race 1 – 2YO – 1000m
  1. 11 – SPOILS – 1st-start. Showed natural speed and won trial under no riding. Good win. Cost $350k.
  2. 1 – DOUBLE JEOPARDY – Good debut chasing smart Meadeenty in fast time (wind-assisted) last week. Never easy 2yo backing up off a debut but the trial prior was very good and he beat a couple of these (All EEz/ Miss Wahoo) doing it.
  3. 6 – JUKEBOX – 1st-start. Looks ready made 2yo off smart trial 2nd with big gap to 3rd. Go well.
  4. 9 – WAIT FOR NO ONE – 1st-start. Led/Won trial quiet well beating Redcore who was about 8L off Madeentay last week.
  5. 4 – COLUMBIA – 1st-start. Closed nicely in jump out and has ability also.
Race 2 – G2 Herbert Power – 2400m
  1. 4 – ASSIGN – Sectionals say did enough fresh at 1700m on wet. Jumped sharply to 2400m 2nd-up and matched motors with Almandin until late, they thrashed the rest, Almandin won Bart Cummings very well last week.
  2. 6 – DANDY GENT – Big run last week in the Almandin race when attacked lead a long way out on run-ons track. Has 2-0 record over Assign but Assign does meet him 4kg better from latest clash.
  3. 2 – HOWARD BE THY NAME – Had 3rd-fastest last 600m fresh finishing on Assign’s heels then again sound late splits G1/WFA latest and beat home Prince Of Penzance. Gets to staying trip and Mackintosh form looks good now.
  4. 1 – PRINCE OF PENZANCE – The class but left alone 60kg. Lovely late work in Maybe then did enough in Underwood behind Howard Be Thy Name. Worked better than that horse midweek. Great recent record over staying trips!
  5. 5 – PEMBERLEY – Going super and drops to 53kg here. Up a notch in class and somewhat unproven 2400m but in the mix.
Race 3 – G3 T’Bred Club Stks – 3YOF – 1200m
  1. 10 – IN THE VANGUARD – Resumes. Trialled super in Sydney. Thrashed handy Earth on debut then beat all-bar Scarlet Rain second go, she was unbeaten at the time, 5th-horse Kentucky Miss then beat a few of these at Flemington.
  2. 16 – HEAR THE CHANT – Looked smart on debut. Was in betting in Champagne Stks but luckless, she had a bit to give to my eye (been good recipe with recent winners Serenely Discreet/ Merriest etc. Often they have NOT had a hard run and can really ‘’bounce’’). Draws out today.
  3. 1 – SELENIA – Nice late in Quezette (3rd-fastest home) then battled up straight but last win terrific given she was wide up near strong speed and beat many key rivals here.
  4. 11 – STOP MAKING SENSE – Was unlucky not to beat Selenia MV when held-up and flew through late. Fitter and has weight swing now. Must have a case.
  5. 4 – CONCHITA – Resumes. 1200m a query fresh but big trial win by 10L and has won 2 of 4 with 2 x forgive runs… Beat Star Turn on debut.
  6. 5 – MODERN WONDER – Beat all-bar handy male latest, 6th Inside Agent won well last week. Include.
Race 4 – Listed Weekend Hussler Stks – 1400m
  1. 3 – CHETWOOD – Did some early work to lead Cameron field and kept running to beat Le Romain (ran super in Epsom chasing hot speed) with 5kg less. Can measure up here.
  2. 5 – BADAWIYA – Just fair fresh but closed nicely in G1 Rupert Clarke here latest and her Jameka/ Don’t Doubt Mamma form (most 3yo fillies form!) is strong.
  3. 9 – WELL SPRUNG – Gave him good hope in G1 Rupert Clarke but he was slow out and that was that. He was only 2.6L off Badawiya on the line and his run prior flashing home in best splits of the day was excellent.
  4. 6 – MABEEL – Resumes. First Oz start. Unbeaten fresh and won 4 times dry. Has good speed. Wary.
  5. 10 – RAGEESE – Worked home well in mostly on-pace race to Hellbent last time and step to 1400m looks ideal. Chance too.
Race 5 – G3 Mares – 1200m
  1. 4 – SHIEDEL – Sat wide and finished with Wild Rain and Heatherly fresh, they both then beat Chautauqua in G1. Led and beat all-bar freak winner Hellbent here last time. Well-weighted to mares this scale.
  2. 2 – SECRET AGENDA – Covered ground and far too good fresh. Wasn’t disgraced in G1 Newmarket 2nd-up last prep and has this terrific 1200m record. Danger.
  3. 10 – RAVI – Nice trial before good return beating all-bar gun mare Heavens Above who then went to an Epsom and only winner Hauraki had faster closing splits. This girl was backed. Wide gate ok now? One turn here anyway in sprints.
  4. 3 – SILENT SEDITION – Resumes. Big maiden win fresh last prep then beat Odyssey Moon who is easy to tie in with a few key rivals here. 4yo mare.
  5. 1 – MISS GUNPOWDER – No match for two handy ones latest, runner-up French Emotion won G2 last week too. 58kg the query.
Race 6 – G1 Caulfield Stks – WFA – 2000m
  1. 3 – WINX – Too classy for Epsom and Craven plate winners 2nd-up and her last go around 2000m she smashed the MV track record held by a legend in Might And Power.
  2. 1 – BLACK HEART BART – Strong win over He Or She last time with star mare Lucia Valentina behind those, that girl was brilliant winning QE Stks remember…
  3. 2 – HE OR SHE – Likely to run third.
Race 7 – G1 Thousand Guineas – 3YOF – 1600m
  1. 3 – GLOBAL GLAMOUR – Was not in A-ground when bloused by Foxplay in Tea Rose then led and kicked strongly beating good one in Yankee Rose, they beat third easy and race rated well. That was her first go 1600m. Looks the overs $7.
  2. 4 – FOXPLAY – Overcame difficulties yet still beat Global Glamour last time, in fact she is 2-0 over her. No reason to doubt her at 1600m. Drawn for good run for Bowman. Hard to beat !
  3. 2 – MISSROCK – Did not find fast lanes at Flemington then jumped to 1400m and may well have won Prelude with any luck! Back to level weights suits and mile looks ok. Value?
  4. 10 – LEOTIE – Good talent but still learning. Three very good wins this prep and excellent in the defeat. Has real closing speed.
  5. 12 – HARLOW GOLD – Strong win over males last time and beat one who then chased Hey Doc at MV latest. If she is not looking for 2000m now, she is in this for sure.
Race 8 – G1 Caulfield Guineas – 3YO C&G – 1600m
  1. 2 – IMPENDING – Good in high-rating Golden Rose then to 1500m with blinkers on and came from behind Divine Prophet to beat him running terrific closing splits. Will eat 1600m. Top-rater.
  2. 4 – DIVINE PROPHET – Held-up and flew home in Golden Rose then just couldn’t hold off Impending last time. He draws gate 1 so should get easy time to run a strong 1600m.
  3. 1 – SACRED ELIXIR – Gave most weight, and fitness in Prelude yet beat them. Raced away for terrific G1 mile win before spell in Qld.
  4. 5 – HEY DOC – Unbeaten as a gelding and last two wins (only two runs beyond 1200m) and been terrific! Wide gate but one from left-field here.
  5. 10 – EVACUATION – Very wide and held on super in Prelude. He was heavily backed. Closing speed in Sydney prior was not in same world as top-two through Golden Rose form but he has a case at 1600m here.
Race 9 – G1 Toorak Hcp – 1600m
  1. 4 – HE’S OUR ROKKII – Two impressive wins this prep and streeted them last time despite doubt being in A-ground. Mile suits even better. Won 5 of 6 now in blinkers. Gate 1 ok?
  2. 2 – TOSEN STARDOM – Should have gone very close in Dato (fastest last 200m without luck) and Jameka / Real Love franked that form. 5-weeks off staying at 1600m probably ok. High-class. Can win this.
  3. 10 – THAMES COURT – Solid and close-up in Rupert Clarke and suspect she is better at 1600m and with 4kg swing on Bon Aurum, is a value hope.
  4. 12 – MORAL VICTORY – Underrated. Top return win then backed and won Shannon Stks 2nd-up producing a slick 11.3 last 200m off a solid speed. Can measure up at odds too.
  5. 5 – JACQUINOT BAY – Going well in Group/ WFA races and suited back to Hcp. Must have a case.
  6. 6 – ROYAL RAPTURE – Still flying and gets weight relief into G1. On his Tally form he is a hope. Maps well again. Can make a case for many here !!
Race 10 – G2 Schillaci Stks – WFA – 1100m
  1. 12 – STAR TURN – Excellent fresh win then ran great closing splits but touched off by Astern (fancy he beats him with different ride) and winner was then awesome in Golden Rose. Happy to see Extreme Choice beat older horses last week for further formline.
  2. 1 – FLAMBERGE – Resumes. Sat wide with 58kg yet beat Fell Swoop in Oakleigh Plate (Heatherly 3rd – then good to Extreme Choice) and now meets Fell Swoop 5kg better! Great fresh record. Suited WFA. Overs $10 surely.
  3. 5 – FELL SWOOP – Resumes. Trialled quite well. Unlucky not to beat Flamberge in that Oakleigh Plate fresh last prep and can measure up WFA given he boasts 2nd to Chautauqua at WFA.
  4. 11 – OCEAN EMBERS – Freshened and has booming finish on her. Last two wins have been super given the slow speed. Suspect strong speed here will only be a plus! Can measure up.
  5. 7 – MALAGUERRA – Resumes. Strong 1000m win fresh last prep in slick time then won G1 and easy to tie him in through Fell Swoop…
Race 1 – 2YO – 1000m
  1. 6 – SHOWTIME – 1st-start. Went every bit as well as last week’s impressive winner Khan at the trials. Cost $1.1M. Scratched last week when drew wide.
  2. 8 – LUIZA – 1st-start. Showed good speed/ ability to win trial clearly from key rival here in Severence.
  3. 3 – LIGHTZ – 1st-start. Also showed natural speed and won latest trial quiet well, bred to run early.
  4. 4 – SEVERNCE – 1st-start. Was ridden but closed nicely in that trial behind Luiza and the 1000m suits better.
  5. 7 – ZATAR – 1st-start. Ignore the trial, slow out mile back then stopped in his tracks. He picked-up and went over line nicely. Has ability.
Race 2 – 3YO BM70 – 1400m
  1. 1 – NICCOLANCE – Led and won Metro maiden easily fresh running good time. The two he beat easily will certainly win races and have form behind city winners! This guy has Astern/ Capitalist form from 2yo days.
  2. 2 – INVINCIBELLA – Gives weight to males but won good form maiden fresh then heavily backed Rosehill and beat all-bar swooper Zenalicious and they ran good time also. Big danger.
  3. 4 – CROWN HIM – Won maiden well enough fresh. Less than 1L off Attention and Prized Icon 2nd-up last prep then beat all-bar Prized Icon in Fernhill Stks.
  4. 5 – OCTAVIAN AUGUSTUS – Limited luck fresh then jumped in trip into Dulcify and raced keen, he was not far away. Back a notch and back to 1400m here.
  5. 8 – PECANS – Sound but no match for Invincibella 2nd-up but does have weight advantage today… and upside.
Race 3 – C&G BM85 – 1600m
  1. 1 – SIGNPOSTED – Won four straight before chasing Fabrizio in vain last time, be beat everything else clearly and winner was tipped by some good judges to run well in an Epsom (forgive file!). Claims down here. Handled dry well there but yet to win on dry is only query.
  2. 5 – HIPPARCHUS – Went way back fresh but liked the way he went over the line and was only 2.1L off Signposted on the line. Fitter. Stays at 1600m but value danger?
  3. 6 – MORE TO GAIN – dod effort last time making good ground on Metrop runner-up Antonio Giuseppe with 59kg on a track suiting those nearer the speed. Back in trip? Can win.
  4. 2 – BODEGA NEGRA – Good miler going well if you delete Ballina when wide, has form around Mr Epic who went to Vic and was not far off the flying Royal Rapture!
  5. 8 – BALMAIN BOY – No match winner last time but won 2 of 3 at the mile and gets weight relief.
Race 4 – C3 Highway – 1600m
  1. 2 – GAMBLED – Blinkers back on last time and he led/won when only 2nd-up. Won two mile races last prep by aggregate 7.8L. Leads here? Looks silly odds $16.
  2. 1 – DISTINCTIVE LOOK – Had backing at odds last time and beat Shotgun Roulette who is here. Good/ Close-up third in one of these three-back.
  3. 3 – GRAND ROUGE – Needs luck from draw now (goes forward to offset?) but going well although no wins 1600m he has run well in strong C1 at the trip.
  4. 10 – NOT FOR EXPORT – Was not far off Distinctive Look last time and went way back from bad draw that day, he ran well, he is proven 1600m and on dry… Draws out again.
  5. 7 – SHOTGUN ROULETTE – Another who must have a case if Distinctive Look does…Draws out.
Race 5 – BM83 – 2000m
  1. 5 – MY GIULIANO – Ran very well behind Antonio Giuseppe a few runs back and last four this distance range have all been good efforts. Carted 60kg latest onto dry for first time in the prep and ran over them. Key rival Broadside was one of those.
  2. 7 – BROADSIDE – Won on debut in Oz at Kembla then led and sound but no match for My Giuliano last time. That was his first go dry. Meets winner .5kg worse.
  3. 6 – SALTHOUSE – Bit disappointing last time when well held fourth off that good effort prior when had no soft run. This is infinitely easier than taking on Antonio Giuseppe!
  4. 10 – ZERO TO TEN – Led and no match for the trifecta last time but two of those just ran well in a Metrop and suspect back to 2000m is a big plus for him.
  5. 1 – MURPHY’S DELIGHT – Late splits say he did enough fresh and quickly to 2000m is the right recipe.
Race 6 – Hcp – 1400m
  1. 6 – HANDFAST – Top return in strong race Rosehill from back and wide then liked the fight in Bill Ritchie. Happy Clapper was right behind him. Ran very well to Mccreery 3rd-up last prep. Go well.
  2. 7 – HIS MAJESTY – Terrific return win then 61.5kg racing in inferior ground and old again 2nd-up. Closed well in Cameron Hcp latest and Le Romain from that race was very good in an Epsom chasing a hot speed.
  3. 4 – RELIGIFY – Resumes. Trialled well. Good fresh horse but never been at this trip fresh-up. Leads? Goes in for sure!
  4. 9 – FALKENBERG – Resumes. Good talent but still learning. Closed nicely in recent trial. Won maiden easily fresh last prep.
  5. 8 – BURNING PASSION – Tough wet-tracker. Kept fresh suits but likely firm going no help! Unders?
Race 7 – G1 Spring Champion Stks – 3YO – 2000m
  1. 11 – YANKEE ROSE – Ridden upside/down fresh yet only 1.2L off Omei Sword then forced to sustain long wide run last week and kept chasing Global Glamour and they got away on the rest. Race rated well enough. The 2000m looks ok.
  2. 1 – PRIZED ICON – Was in trouble vital stage and unlucky in the Gloaming. Beat Divine Prophet in Champagne in Autumn and no worries 2000m as long as he can settle.
  3. 4 – HIGH MIST – Looks the value $10. Came wide against pattern in Gloaming and loomed to win but saddle had shifted and rider was never full bore on him. Can beat Swear home and much bigger price but concede little between many of these.
  4. 3 – SWEAR – Shows promise. Kept closing in that Gloaming on better day to be handy and should eat 2000m… It was a blanket finish there but most are here so…?
  5. 2 – VELADERO – Led and great fight to win that Gloaming, yes pattern helped and he did fall in a bit but never decry winning form!
Race 8 – Angst Stks – Mares – 1600m
  1. 7 – DIXIE BLOSSOMS – Lovely return then badly blocked 2nd-up (had bit to give) before beating all-bar Tycoon Tara in Golden Pendant, she had high class girls behind her in First Seal and Heavens Above (latter just ran well in an Epsom) and mile no issue for her. The race ‘’rated’’ much better than Extensible’s race that day. Keen runs well.
  2. 8 – EXTENSIBLE – Won 2 of her last 3 and convinced if ridden off-speed she beats Antonio Giuseppe in the ‘’miss’’. Loved the win last time (ridden back) and was month off there… Danger.
  3. 2 – SPIRIT BIRD – Back/Wide and ran over them in Tibbie fresh. All her 2nd-up form is good. That fillies WA form kept rating highly from early 2016. Wary!
  4. 1 – ZANBAGH – Had track pattern and dry track against her fresh, forgive. Good when 2L off then in G1 Coolmore 2nd-up last prep. Was on heels of It’s Somewhat 2nd-up prior.
  5. 10 – UNEQUIVOCAL – Nice trial then pleasing return before not being far off them in Shannon Stks and that race rated well too… Chance at odds.
  6. 9 – HAPPY HANNAH – Found line nicely fresh and suited mile too.
Race 9 – BM85 – 1200m
  1. 6 – BRIGADOON RISE – Luckless fresh and she was backed. Made ground on Takedown before spell and back to 85 class. From draw they can sit closer here.
  2. 2 – ROCK FORTHE LADIES – Resumes. Sat deep off them and ran over top in nice trial win. Won BM84 fresh last prep then beat all-bar Pilote D’essai who has Royal Rapture form.
  3. 3 – SUSPENSE – Right on heels of Moral Victory fresh, winner franked that form! Won only other 2nd-up run. Great dry track record.
  4. 11 – TOP ME UP – No answer for handy one last time but beat everything else and back to 1200m no negative. Gets weight relief and senior rider up. Leader? Pattern?
  5. 5 – DENPURR – Beat handy field fresh and that form was franked WFM Monday. Her 2nd-up form is better than stats say, she was only beaten 1.3L in Reg Allen 2nd-up one day.
  6. 1 -LUNAR RISE – Trialled well but never won, or placed fresh so…?
Good luck !

It was a Caulfield Guineas Day to remember for G1 subscribers to with ”Gator” selecting the winner of ALL TEN RACES at Caulfield in his top-two selections. Seven (7) of those were his top-rated runner!

In Sydney it was a similar story, there were 9 races at Randwick and Gator had the winner in his top-two SIX times with 3 on-top, one of those was his Best Bet Of The Day DIXIE BLOSSOMS who went up $4+ in some markets Wednesday evening when the G! email went out.

…WORTH NOTING: Speaking of early markets, If you were shopping early (when G1 email went out) you could have found SHIEDEL at $5, GLOBAL GLAMOUR at $7, STAR TURN $3 add to those HE’S OUR ROKKII and CHETWOOD were much shorter on raceday also.

As I saw Gator mention on twitter: ”I used to send the G1 email out Friday but the landscape has changed” and this is a great call, if you are receiving your information Friday or Saturday you are so often shopping at WAY under the odds in the current climate.

Thanks to all who voted on an epic weekend of racing. There were some outstanding individual performances however, the voting was clear-cut that HARTNELL was the Run Of The Weekend, he held 49% of the vote beating EXTREME CHOICE (30%), HAURAKI (19%) and ASTERN (2%)…
So… let’s start at FLEMINGTON:
The track was GOOD and rail was 9m. The pattern was very much suiting swoopers. There was a strong tailwind up the straight so be wary of the fast times and forgive most who did not have cover down the back.
Run Of The Day:
As mentioned it was HARTNELL and for the third time in succession, the win was nothing short of outstanding, this time he thrashed a G1 mare in JAMEKA who was coming off a huge win herself. Hartnell ran home 33.55/ 22.51 then 11.55 despite rider ‘’clocking off’’ 150m from home, he ran 22-seconds flat 600m-to-200m, make no mistake, he is a genuine threat to the mighty Winx !!
His overall time was 2-01.03 off a moderate 1-16.96 1st-1200m, JAMEKA was, well, clear second best, she followed the winner and chased hard (splits: 33.87/ 22.89/ 11.76) but was outclassed. TALLY sat up second and battled well to keep third from PREFERMENT (better effort) and old boy HAPPY TRAILS (11.89) who did find the line. DE LITTLE ENGINE ran home 11.75 last 200m and is flying for easier/ further.
The Blazer Stks was Race 8 and by now, the pattern was well established, the trifecta all came from off midfield and wide: FRENCH EMOTION ridden colder (smart move) peeled to the middle and unleashed a big finale to beat PURE PRIDE who was a bit stiff even she copped an early check then found traffic at a vital stage, she rushed home race-fastest 11.28 to get second from VIBRANT ROUGE (11.37) back out to 1400m. TELOPEA stayed on inside lanes, her effort to run fourth Vs the pattern was excellent for mine. ROCKOLICIOUS was solid for easier. Win time was 1:24.36 off 50.29 1st-800m
Back to R4 and Gigai Stks and, despite that strong tailwind, FAATINAH led in 36.54 1st-600m which is walking speed, to put this into perspective on the day, the 2yo’s in race 1 went 34.42 early so they would have been leading this G2 field by around 12 Lengths at the halfway mark. THE QUARTERBACK was only a few lengths away before bursting through scooting home 21.7/ 11.2 and beating WE’VE GOT THIS who came from behind him, his splits were 21.6/ 11.11 and that latter 200m was the day’s fastest, he is going super but just needed more speed on. DURENDAL sat behind them and was a sound third from GENERALIFE. UNDER THE LOUVRE hooked out wide but race was dominated closer inside and nearer the speed, he ran 11.35 home. They still ran a slick 1-9.04 (wind assisted)
The Manifold Stks for 3yo Fillies was R6 and SERENELY DISCREET charged over the top of them, as mentioned here off that totally luckless fresh run she looked to have plenty to give that day, well, I guess this proves that true! She came from second-last off a 50.81 1st-800m and stormed over the top running 21.95/ 11.35. Worth noting the runner-up came from last (and right behind her) in BELLA SORELLASTRA and she recorded 22.05/ 11.27. Again it was a run-ons race. WATERLOO SUNSET from off midfield and racing tight key stage ran home wee into third from ANOTHER BULLSEYE who needed up near that inside section so fancy she ran very well here. FROM PARIS WITHLOVE ran 11.71 home and was sound. Overall time: 1-37.52 for the mile.
STYLEMAN (went to inside rail), TRENCHANT (never clear), HIGHLAD (early work/ run-ons day/ ends up inside rail/ ran super!), BEACH LIFE (back and wide), MISSILE BOOM (lame), THROSSELL (atrial fibrillation), DANDY GENT (attacked lead mid race/ went well), CHIPANDA (too wide), EXOCET (little luck/ mucous post-race), ELEONARA (never fully clear), CLASSIC DIVA (badly blocked), PEEKING DUCK (covered ground), RAW IMPULSE (poor recovery), TELOPEA (wrong spot), MANAGERESS (upside/ down), CATCH A FIRE (covered ground), DAN ZEPHYR (should’ve finished closer), SANTA ANA LANE (upside/ down).
To RANDWICK for Epsom Day and track was Good-4, there were some fast time recorded. Rail was 3m. There was no mad pattern evident for mine, winners led and swooped, There was high-wind so cover was helpful.
The win of HAURAKI in the Epsom was excellent after drifting back to last, he was certainly helped but a suicidal speed on up front set by FABRIZIO, he ran 58.2 his first 1000m and there was a sub 34-second 600m there, it set up a sizzling overall time of 1-33.87. Back to the winner though, his closing speed off that tempo was exceptional, he easily broke 11-seconds 400m-to-200m (10.82 – clearly race-fastest) then ran home 11.07 whilst many were gasping for air (next fastest last 200m was HEAVENS ABOVE – 11.32 who was also well-back). DIBAYANI and MACKINTOSH had beautiful ‘’suck runs’’ with cover off that hot speed and so often, horses with those runs, in races where there is a tearaway leader, win! Both were home 11.62. HAPPY CLAPPER didn’t ping but kept responding to riding and ended-up .6L 4th (home 11.42) with LE ROMAIN 5th (good effort given he was first out to chase the leader), MCCREERY raced near HAPPY CLAPPER and he too didn’t quicken back at the mile but warmed up nicely late home 11.51, then the aforementioned HEAVENS ABOVE, these seven had 1.7L over them all. Great race !!
The Metrop was won by SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD and he did a terrific job, yes he had the perfect run in transit but the leader really upped the ante (tempo) 800m out which should have suited those back with the last crack, the winner was left in front a way out as said leaders fainted early yet he kept running! ANTONIO GUISEPPE measured up very well (albeit with 51kg) and chased hard for second from ALLERGIC who closed 11.00/ 11.36, only fourth horse SACRED MASTER was quicker home (10.87 slick 400-to-200m then 11.32 home). That ran 2:30.47 for 2400m here.
The other G1 was Flight Stks and GLOBAL GLAMOUR led before steadying tempo mid race and giving a very nice kick. She went 59.83 1st-1000m so didn’t walk (but were some 9L slower than madman Fabrizio) and held off YANKEE ROSE who was forced to make an early move, then forced wide. She still attacked the line (home 11.48 – race-fastest) but couldn’t reel in the winner. SEZANNE came with the runner-up and was sound but no match for her, they thrashed the rest some 4.5L and ran 1-34.73
Many were disappointed with ASTERN, I was not one of them, he went back (as excepted) as leader/ winner RUSSIAN REVOLUTION ran 35.7 1st-600m (say, 9L slower than Howmuchdoyouloveme in final race over 1200m) and held on. ASTERN recorded an amazing 32.29 last 600m, easily day’s fastest, the 200m breakdown splits were 10.8/ 10.4/ 11.08… I hope many sack him and we get some odds next time ??? :)
Better mention two 2yo races:
JORDA had the run but won well despite running about late and ran 57.53 off 23.22 1st-400m split, runner-up KANGA’S EYE (home 11:46) after blowing the start and being held-up was excellent !! LUCKY LOUIE ran home 11.47 and hit line nice.
KHAN won the boy’s division from midfield (home 11:45) and overcoming some traffic issues, he set out after CONDOR HEROES who had led and given a beaut kick, he had no answer late but they had a gap on third, they ran 57.43 off 23.18 1st-400m so…. early report, very little between both divisions.
GRASSLANDS (back/ green/ showed ability), MEDAL KHAN (bad start/ bad check!), THY KINGDOM COME (back/wide/new), SPENCER (wide), THE MISSION (poor recovery), NEMRUD (good thing beaten), CALABASAS (lame), AWOKE (too dry), FABRIZIO (umm, yeah), MIGHTY LUCKY (covered ground), PALENTINO (back/ wide/ wrong leg going Sydney way), SENSE OF OCCASION (wide/ still beat many home), STORM THE STARS (lame), GOOD PROJECT (checked out of it).
Bring on Guineas Day !!

…The only ”miss” from Gator was the roughie Wine Bush!

He had (top-rated): MADEENATY (went up $5 early), INSIDE AGENT ($7), ALMANDIN ($3), HARTNELL (Bet Of The Day) and had greta value winners SERENELY DISCREET ($10 was bet) and THE QUARTERBACK second top-rated.

Sydney punters were not left out either: Gator had Epsom winner HAURAKI top-rated plus 2yo JORDA, IT’S SOMEWHAT and gave big push for KHAN (2nd pick) and SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD (2nd pick)… He had GLOBAL GLAMOUR and TAKEDOWN in his top-rated runners also.
