SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:

Racing was at FLEMINGTON on Saturday on Soft-5 track with rail TRUE. Most avoided the inside rail from pretty early on, in straight races the winners were beyond the middle of the track.

Run Of The Day:
Another dominant ‘’winner’’ this week and with 56% of your votes it was PALENTINO (Bon Aurum was second with 22%) and the win was excellent! He is settling better this prep and he sat back just off midfield then improved nicely before pouncing on proven G1 star in BLACK HEART BART and he won going away!

PALENTINO recorded a 10.86 split 400-to-200m which was one of the day’s better sectionals (and this was a mile race) before sustain the effort and coming home race-fastest 11.69. He ran 1-36.17 overall off an even 49.87 1st-800m. BLACK HEART BART was no match but gallant in defeat and beat third clearly, he was left exposed a fair way out but doubt that mattered. HE OR SHE was between the quinella in the run and straightening up, no match obviously but a solid third at G1/WFA from him. JACQUINOT BAY sat deep and battled on very well, OK the fence was ‘’off’’ but still, he ran out of his skin the old boy. OUR IVANHOWE quickened up quite nicely then battled home well enough, the disappointment I guess was that he never passed Jacquinot Bay, still, the return was sound. PRINCE OF PENZANCE went super here 2nd-up running home 11.77 which was bettered only by the winner, and, SOFIA ROSA was 3rd-fastest home (11.81) and liked her late work after she certainly did not quicken. Clearly wants further.

To race 8 and the Let’s Elope Stks. It was the new season 4YO mares who quinellaed the race (remember as 3yo fillies they kept ‘’rating’’ highly) and that was no shock, hard to pot the winner DON’T DOUBT MAMMA given (as stated) she gave older mares weight and was forced closer to those inside lanes, in fact, she was the only winner all-day back near that section. THAMES COURT sat up handy on a modest 50.51 1st-800m and was gallant but had her chance. The first home from tho older mares was the classy MANAGERESS who was fresh off long spell and she really found the wire off that slow speed. JESSY BELLE raced tight key stage and then closed well for fourth. METAPHORICAL went back and also raced tight before hitting the wire very sweetly, in fact, her 11.53 last 200m was race-fastest. Nice! BADAWIYA was the disappointment but she raced a bit ‘’fresh’’ and had 59 so? Some query here given 1.7L covered the first ten mares but that slow speed was certainly a factor.

Back to Race 2 and KENTUCKY MISS sat deep (best ground) but didn’t have much cover and was keen early yet still charged home to beat BEYOND THE DREAM who flashed late, widest on debut at $201… Wow!! MY COUNTRY led that outside division and battle hard. First home inside was SUPER TOO and given the pattern, her run was excellent. HAPPY EVENT deserves a mention then, she was second home inside. CONSCIOUS didn’t ping at all but warmed up nicely late and wants further it seems. They went 30.81 1st-500m here so there was no mad speed, overall time for 1100m was 1-4.47

Race 3 was another slowly run 3yo race and DETECTIVE sat up second on filly ZUNBAQA and they went 49.77 1st-800m, they ran first and fourth in a race dominated by those nearer the speed. DETECTIVE had to dig in as TESSERA was closing after racing a bit keen early, he didn’t quicken immediately and he looks like a miler to me. THROSSELL was backed and the best of the closers here, he broke 11-seconds 400-to-200m (10.93) coming from off midfield, his 11.93 last 200m was 5th-fastest. The two quickest home were AWAKE IN GRINZING (11.74) and that split has more merit when you consider he wasnt fully clear until around 200m from home so didn’t have momentum up, and, SEABURGE (11.83) who also was blocked until around the 200m. The first ten here covered only 3.3L so…? Overall time 1-24.40

Worth noting BON AURUM and older horses the following race ran 1-23.42 so around 6L quicker overall and that was despite a 49.99 1st-800m (slower early). Winner was impressive and clocked a 10.72 400-to-200m then 11.48 home, loved the ride pinching ground mid race off slow speed. ULMANN was a bit deep and good in second. HI WORLD rushed home 11.45 2nd-up and was the best closer. TASHBEEH led and no match, no winners led in circle races today.

Kiwi SARACINO led in 35.58 1st-600m in Danehill Stks and ran 1-9.80, he was left alone, he kept running and held off ARCHIVES who kept coming despite racing a bit keen early. SAMARA DANCER closed well (both these ran 12.20 home) with WAZZENME 12.15 being race-fastest but off that tempo nothing was able to ‘’storm’’ from the back. HARDHAM warmed up late and wants easier/ 1400m and with the recipe, will get some of my money!

The older horses in Bobbie Lewis ran their 1200m in 1-9.13 off a quicker 34.91 1st-600m and the trifecta here were the three widest runners: FAATINAH (sat deep on-pace with 53kg and kept running/ was backed), TIVACI (had his back/ ridden along 500m out and closed well – home 12.34) and WE’VE GOT THIS (back last/ to outside and ran 12.10 last 200m). Fourth was UNDER THE LOUVRE who did well given weights were dead-against him, he ran 12.10 home also. GENERALIFE finished off OK (12.34) in a race of many disappointments…

THE FORGIVE FILE:
GETEMHEL (didn’t handle straight), SEABURGE (in traffic key stage), AWAKE IN GRINZING (clear too late!), URBAN RULER (worst ground), JACKSON (wide), INSPIRED ESTELLE (forced off track), PRINCE OF BROOKLYN (worst ground), DEFCON (lame), DREAMS APLENTY (lame), THE MONSTAR (solo inside?), SANTA ANA LANE (no cover up middle/ gets another go), ASTRO CASTRO (respiratory issue?), XTRAVAGANT (mind on other things!!!), TARZINO (worst ground/ gets another go), ALPINE EAGLE (too colty also), TELOPEA (back and wide), CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL (caught deep), EGYPT (never fully clear/ hmmmm), MAURUS (worst ground) and HANS HOLBEIN (atrial fibrillation).

In Sydney it was ROSEHILL and track went from Soft-5 to Good-4 (from race 6) with rail 2m. There was no major pattern, most avoided being hard on that inside section was all. Great racing.

Run OF The Day:
No ‘’betting’’ here given ASTERN was just outstanding blowing away his rivals in the G1 Golden Rose, that change-up speed is awesome (10.87 400m-to-200m was equal fastest of the day) then he was 11.29 home and eased-up late. His last 600m was a sizzling 33.74. He stopped the clock 1-23.91… Yep, outstanding !!

Runner-up was filly OMEI SWORD and she too was excellent, she was looking for room 350m-to-250m and had no momentum whilst the winner was in ‘’fully cry’’, she picked up and hit the line hard, she is top class!! She ran 11.25/ 11.39 home. IMPENDING was no match at all for the quinella but found the line nicely for third (home 11.58) with DIVINE PROPHET rushing home for fourth after being held-up touch straightening, he had settled just off the quinella, he ran 11.25/ 11.28. Good run. Of the others: MEDITERRANEAN hit line 11.81 and was noteworthy for easier/ further. They went 49.27 1st-800m

Theo Marks was Race 7 and MACKINTOSH sat off the good speed and joined in 4-deep out of trouble, with 53kg, he held off COUNTERATTACK who was a good thing beaten having to wait behind a wall until too late. Runner-up still ran 11.49 home (race-fastest). SOUTHERN LEGEND raced tight key stage but did have room in time, he was just no match late and TYCOON TARA was an every chance 4th and these four had only .7L covering them, they had 2L to spare on the rest, headed by SNOOPY who worked home well but they held him late (11.73). Time: 1-17.11 for 1300m.

Race 8 was the Sheraco Stks and what a win from HEAVENS ABOVE, midfield, in traffic off modest tempo and she was coming back in trip, she got clear and launched late to arrive running the day’s fastest 11.20 last 200m, she beat RAVI who was well backed off nice trial form (every chance) with MAGIC ALIBI weaving through for third. DENMAGIC was enormous here, her 10.87 400m-to-200m was equal-fastest split with Astern and then 11.21 home, she (somehow) missed a place!?!? SERENE MAJESTY sat 2nd and battled well, there was .7L over these five girls. SOLD FOR SONE was back with DENMAGIC and got left behind then rattled that last 100m (11.05/ 11.21), she was 33.79 last 600m, DENMAGIC was 33.55… Low flying!

THE FORGIVE FILE:
LOVE’S A FANTASY (wide), MALTHOUSE (no peace/ fitter), DOC HOLIDAY (attacked lead 800m out), SIR BACCHUS (tardy/ closest inside/ don’t sack!), OPEN BOOK (action ok??), ZERO TO TEN (attacked a way out), JUNOOB (back and wide), GET ON THE GRANGE (attacked lead 800m out), SONG AND LAUGHTER (non-event), YANKEE ROSE (upside/ down), THRONUM (wide on-speed), PEALRS (always wide), NANCY (worst going), DIXIE BLOSSOMS (just never got a crack at them!), SAVOURED (squeezed out 200m), BALMAIN BOY (back/wide/ ran well), ORCYM SAM (back and wide).
