SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:
Racing was at CAULFIELD on Saturday on GOOD-3 track. Rail was out 9m. The inside lanes seemed inferior ground in the home straight, most avoided that part of the track but you could sit handy or swoop and win if the tempo was there.
RUN OF THE DAY: Our runner-up awards go to RYKER and PICKIN’ TIME but winner this week is SHAMAL WIND who did look stiff in Race 8 given she was held-up a touch, just when she needed to be improving (in sprint home race) then flashed at the line, not for the first time in her career she recorded the best closing splits of the day in 21.29/ 10.74 off that slo-o-o-ow 37.22 1st-600m speed.
The winner was GIRL GUIDE who sat 3-deep (however, only one turn Caulfield sprints and remember, fence was ‘’off’’) then showed great courage to nail A TIME FOR JULIA who had sat up 2nd, she too gave her all. Top return here from POLITENESS given said tempo, she hit the line 10.94 last 200m. A few other sectional stars here were MAY’S DREAM (home 10.87) and JESSY BELLE (10.91), they were both 1st-up and times/splits say they both went very well. Overall time was 1-10.25 for the 1200m.
To the G1 Underwood Stks and FORETELLER was able to sit closer to the speed here, 3rd-up, out to 1800m and he got in (lovely ride) from an improved HAPPY TRAILS who weaved through and closed nicely, looks like he is back! CRACKERJACK KING led but stayed well off those inside lanes, he went 51.29 1st-800m so certainly did not ‘’fly’’, he was only collared late! LIDARI sat up 2nd and ave his all. SILENT ACHIEVER kept closing but never seriously threatened, she was 2nd-up jumping to 1800m and there is improvement there. SUPER COOL (3rd-fastest last 200m) was another improver and STIPULATE kept finding the line OK (5th-fastest late split). Overall time: 1-50.25 for 1800m.
The Naturalism Stks was won by GRIS CARO who controlled the race sitting second on the moderate tempo, they went 1-16.47 1st-1200m here, he travelled well, took over then had to fight as ENTIRELY PLATINUM rallied under hard riding and just missed. Leader BONFIRE lasted for 3rd to round out the on-pace trifecta. ALBONETTI came from a clear last for 4th (good effort) and record best closing splits. Liked the run of IBICENCO here, worked forward wide then was posted, he looked gone straightening but came again and was nor far away, fancy he is about ready. Expected better from OUR VOODOO PRINCE, there were many better on/over the line. Overall time: 2-02.67
Race 5 saw the fillies do battle and STAR FASHION (who was only 1st-up) followed SUAVITO and was able to get over her, runner-up didn’t quicken but did respond well when winner joined her. NADEEM LASS rattled home to just get the third prize but winner’s 11.41 was the fastest closing 200m of the race. BLANKET BAY made very nice ground (only winner had better late splits) and plenty made the forgive file here. Time: 1-22.83 off 48.07 1st-800m
Race 4 was for 3YO fillies, also over 1400m, they went slower early (49.15 1st-800m around 6L slower) and slower overall (1-23.69), winner THINKING OF YOU was impressive, yeah she had the nice trail into it but this was only start two and she came away from them very nicely that last 100m. Runner-up PICKIN’ TIME did not have the soft run, she was wide then sustained a wider run into the home straight (winner was on her back), liked the effort! PITTSBURGH FLYER was another who sat deep and she too battled very well, there are many wins in her. FONTEIN RUBY hit the wire ok. BERIMBAU was the pick of the swooper’s though, liked her finale, she recorded an 11.45 last 200m which was 2/100ths quicker than the winner’s. CRAFTY (3rd-fastest late) was a much better run than your ‘’12th’’ says too.
The gelding operation worked for FAST ’N’ ROCKING as he sat off the strong speed (34.08 1st-600m) and secured all the runs, and nutted ANATINA who had the nice trail but was just no match. RYKER did well here up outside the speed, the quinella had softer runs (and last crack at him), the return was good. RIFLEMAN worked home quite well and I could back SMACKDOWN in something easier next time. They ran sharp 1-2.85 for 1100m here.
THE FORGIVE FILE: ZELETTO (sore post-race), LOTION (wide), CAILIN MISS (lame/ internal bleed), MANHATTAN AVENUE (hung off track), NOT A HAPY CAMPER (sat too close!), IMPERIAL LASS (ran out of room), SPIRIT OF HEAVEN (luckless/ may well have won), GOLDEN PENNY (stayed inside rail/ worst ground), LADY CUMQUAT (trapped behind leader when it tired), MEMBERS JOY (3-wide no cover on-speed), LET’S MAKE ADEAL (plenty against!), SPILLWAY (still not out !!), REAL SURREAL (wide), FOREVER LOVED (back/ wide) and CAUTHEN (led Vs pattern/ jock heard respiratory noise too so??).
In Sydney it was RANDWICK on DEAD-4 to GOOD-3. Rail was out 8m and those on-speed, closer to inside lanes had the advantage today.
RUN OF THE DAY: Podium finishers this week are BROOK ROAD and FAMOUS SEAMUS but clear winner for mine was TERRAVISTA who sat wide no cover off the strong speed yet quickly improved, put the race away and ran fast time (1-2.48) doing it… Against the pattern of the day!
The early split here was 28.82 1st-500m. Runner-up I’M ALL THE TALK led and did give a good sight. FAMOUS SEAMUS was one of very few horses to rattle home on the day and he did it with 58kg, terrific return, his 22.02/ 11.46 late splits were clearly race-fastest. SESSIONS, well, he followed the winner, he was OK but didn’t exactly rocket through the line 1st-up. I’VE GOT THE LOOKS went nicely and should have finished closer, keen to see her in easier race soon.
To the G1 and SACRED FALLS was quite dominant, he was caught behind a wall turning then when daylight came back nearer the inside he shot through and won easily. ROYAL DESCENT had nice trail, yet another second for her. LASER HAWK led (good day to do this) and held third in an improved effort. HAWKSPUR took off before the turn and was sound out in those wider lanes. LUCIA VALENTINA hit the line in 11.34 (winner 11.10) against the pattern, don’t sack/ good run. 3YO PANZER DIVISION measured up ok, he sat handy though and was every hope. They ran 1-35.66 here off a 49.58 1st-800m (not a strong speed for this class of horse).
BOSS LANE won the Seventh, sitting handy and kicking, nice ride. Was only 2nd-up so more to come here. Loved the run of BROOK ROAD from off midfield, she really found the line and measured up very well, she ran a 10.04 400-to-200m then 11.22 home, nice!! ATMOSPHERICAL sat just off speed and battled well for 3rd, she was every chance though. MAYSOON led and tried to fight, just no match for them late, she was 4th. Time was 1-9.63 off 35.83 1st-600m.
JUNOOB was well-rated in front in Race 5, he increased the tempo from 600m or so and kept king too well for CRITERION who sat up handy too. BAGMAN keeps racing well, he from from the tail and had an 11.05 last 200m (race-fastest). LA AMISTAD (colder ride/ 3rd-up) was better/sound. Time: 2-06.12
Race 4 was dominated by those up front and FIRST SEAL had the rails trail, then got up inside her more fancied rivals and was too strong, WINX sat 2nd and was solid on dry, EARTHQUAKE led in 49.35 and held third clearly, they had margin on the rest, time was good here given said slow speed, 1-22.83
KURO won Race 3 well, he ran only tick slower than star older horse Terravista too, he stopped the clock at 1-2.37, he hardly had ideal run (even allowing for track pattern) up outside a strong speed (28.73 1st-500m), liked the win! ECHO GAL was solid 2nd with every chance (tracked the winner) and KLAMMER led (inside winner) and held 3rd…. Another on-pace race!
THE FORGIVE FILE: RIVA DE LAGO (needed much more room), SULTRY FEELING (wide), PEGGY JEAN (pattern/ tempo against), TOYDINI (swung wide/ wrong day), IDEAL POSITION (wide no cover), VILLA VERDE (covered ground too) and I’VE GOT THE LOOKS (as mentioned). =================================================================================

Stack of value winners

Author: Gator

Our man David ”Gator” Gately is rarely far away with his ”Top-Rated Runners” section, on the weekend he found a stack of value winners including:

* Firehouse Rock (R2 Caulfield – $12)

* Manawanui (R2 Randwick – He descibed his odds of $16 as ”stupid for a horse of his ability, trailling exceptionally well)

* He mad MALICE on-top in Race 1 in Sydney and he went up $9 when markets opened, madness!

* Add Trust In A Gust (on-top) and he even included blowout Rough Justice in his tips at Caulfield… He gave Boss Lane a decent push at Randwick too.

SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:
Racing was at FLEMINGTON on Saturday for a huge Makybe Diva Stks Day. Track was GOOD. Rail was TRUE. Those away from the inside rail had the advantage, in straight races, those up middle of the track and beyond dominated!
RUN OF THE DAY:
Our runners-up this week are LATE CHARGE and LOOKS LIKE THE CAT but the major prize goes to CHAUTAUQUA who produced an outstanding finale to win the Bobbie Lewis, he looked like he was in a sling-shot that last 100m and that sort of finishing speed is reserved for only exceptional horses!
His last 600m was covered in 32.39 (wow!), the breakdown was 10.45/ 10.54/ 11.30 (that last 200m was 2nd-fastest all-day), no shock then his overall time was a brilliant 1-8.11 (just .95 outside the course record) and he ran that time off an early split of 35.22 (so they hardly went mad up front, in fact, the 3yo race won by Rich Enuff (almost identical overall time) was run a bit under 5L faster that first 600m). TEMPLE OF BOOM sat deep (right spot) and was terrific given he gave said winner 5.5kg (although he has case of windburn to get over!). IN CAHOOTS was near Temple Of Boom midway then got left a bit, he wound up strongly and ran to his trials. SPEEDINESS was last (behind winner) and did charge late, his 11.50 last 200m was not far off the winner’s late split, his last 600m was 32.58, note, he too had the 59.5kg to cart. SISTINE DEMON was excellent for mine holding onto 5th in a fast race dominated by swooper’s wider out. AKAVOROUN (3rd-fastest last 400/200m) went nicely too.
To the G1 and DISSIDENT showed great fight here, he sat up second and quickly took over, he was left there a bit as MESSENE caved and FAWKNER (who is no slouch and loves a fight himself) joined him (and may have headed him) yet the 4yo was shade too strong! Nice return from FAWKNER given winner had the run under the belt and PUISSANCE DE LUNE kept closing for 3rd, he was on runner-up’s back and only went down .8L or so. SPILLWAY was the best of the closers, look, he was entitled to run a slick late split given the cold ride and modest tempo (we will get to that) but if you are recording 45.2 seconds for your last 800m you are going well, his 11.41 last 200m was race-fastest, DISSIDENT was 11.43 (only 2/100ths slower and sat up 2nd) and FAWKNER 11.44 so…? GREEN MOON did more than enough too, he was hardly hammered to the line! That early split was 50.04 1st-800m and they slowed before turn too, the 1000m-to-600m split was 24.92 seconds. Overall time: 1-36.29.
Back to Race 9 and what a win from LATE CHARGE, sat deep no cover, headed out to the middle (best ground) then pinned the ears back and nailed UNDER THE LOUVRE (who had cosy run, and can run a freak late sectional himself) on the wire, speaking of sectionals, the winner’s last 200m was 11.27 the fastest of any runner all day, great stuff! EXTRA ZERO made a sound return but he has not won since Roman times. ESCADO was the only runner to break 22-secs his last 400m (21.97) and his 11.31 last 200m was one of the better splits all day, nice return him. RHYTHM TO SPARE was sound fresh, same for DESERT JEUNEY (2nd-up) and SHOREHAM ran home well (22.11 last 400m). BY THE GRACE you can have… Time was good: 1-22.69 off a modest 49.02 1st-800m.
The Danehill was won brilliantly by RICH ENUFF who sat deep no cover just off that strong 34.35 1st-600m speed, he travelled strongly, then broke clear and kept going too well for LOOKS LIKE THE CAT who was under pressure 500m out but kept coming, he can win a big race this prep this guy, he is not 1200m horse! Winner smashed the clock, 1-8.13 (so .97 off track record) coming off his MV win at start two when .88 off the course record, this is rarefied air for any horse, let alone one having starts two, and three. The quinella ran away from 3rd, GHIBELLINES (restrained/ ran home well here fresh – do think cold rides are key) and 4th, AWESOME ROCK (worked home well with blinkers on). ONEROUS was very new but closed well, he was 3rd-fastest last 200m split in 12.12. Sectional star was LOOKS LIKE A CAT though, his 11.82 was clearly race-fastest last 200m.
The Let’s Elope was Race 5 and COMMANDING JEWEL was too strong, despite sitting 3-wide no cover, and being 2nd-up off that long spell, yes the slow speed (and rail a little ”off”) helped, leaders ran a slo-o-ow 50.46 1st-800m here, but there was plenty of merit in the win. DEAR DEMI had limited room at times and was strong late 2nd-up, like the way she went through the line and her 11.45 last 200m was race-fastest. NAUTICAL measured up well, she had gap between runs into this too. BONARIA followed the winner, did not quicken but on/over the line was trong (home 11.51) and GIG kept her great form hitting the wire in 11.46, there was only .7L between these five on the line. Not sure SOLICIT here, perhaps she is best let run…? Overall time was not great, 1-23.61 but note that early split.
Race 4 saw MERION have a much softer run than the one he endured at MV (behind Rich Enuff – on strong speed) and he just lasted beating a good one in CHIVALRY who did have a series of misadventures at the start remember, third was ZEBULON who was slow into stride then ran home hard, his 11.85 was race-fastest last 200m and he had the gap between runs. MOONOVERMANHATTAN was the best on-pacer here and ran well. The early speed was strong, 47.2 1st-800m off standing start set up smart overall time of 1-22.38.
THE FORGIVE FILE:
MORE RADIANT (needed more room), MARKSMANSHIP (worked/ pressured/ sore post-race), LIVERY (internal bleed), TURFANE (ridden too close?), FORGIVE AND FORGET (wide no cover), DIVAN (mucous detected), WINTA CHILLER (went well for easier/ wetter off slow speed), BRAZEN BEAU (lame/ wrong spot!), CORNROW (internal bleed), GO INDY GO (too bad to be true), BOBAN (keen/ held-up/ went inside rail and inferior ground), SERTORIUS (covered ground/ stuck well), TANGO’S DAUGHTER (too close inside), CHARLIE BOY (internal bleed), MISTER MILTON (wrong spot!), OUR HAND OF FAITH (ended up inside rail, race 9, wrong spot), THUNDERBIRD ONE (tardy/ pattern no help) and GREAT LANE (blew the start).
In Sydney it was ROSEHILL on DEAD-5 track and rail was TRUE. None of the eight winners were anywhere near the inside rail this day!
RUN OF THE DAY:
Two spots on the podium go to JETSET LAD and CLUSTER but winner has to be SCISSOR KICK, yes the fence was ”off” but he sat 4-wide no cover, made a move before the turn and still made winner stretch to beat him, that winner had the perfect drop on him!
…The winner was HALLOWED CROWN and whilst the runner-up was enormous, this guy is a ripper too, unbeaten, wet or dry, still has real upside! He ran 1-24-flat in the Golden Rose off a 48.34 1st-800m so the race ”rated” very well relative to older horses…I’ll go deeper than that… In the last race Reflectance ran indentical time (1-24-flat) but he ran it off a stronger 47.64 1st-800m, it’s rare for older horses to run slower/same time as 3yo’s off significantly slower speed, yes Reflectance was in a restriced race but he had just run very well behind Cluster! Anyway, back to the Golden Rose, SHOOTING TO WIN (sound finale/ followed winner/ 4/100ths sec slower last 200m); ALMALAD (sat behind speed/ solid/ better!); NOSTRADAMUS (sound/ cloeer to inside lanes) and SARAJEVO (kept closing) were noteworthy.
To finish off Race 8 then, REFLECTANCE (great ride!) held off MAXIMILIAN who did charge home, they had a little break on the in-form BLACK REVOLVER (third/ sound) and MASTERSTROLE (wide/ good) was 4th… Gap to the rest…
Race 6 saw the class of CATKINS shine through, she had a sweet run, but did not need it to beat them with 58kg. MY SABEEL was baulked 300m out yet still ran home well for 2nd, she is going super. NEENA ROCK off the back off a great trial flashed home for 3rd at $31-in, she was the only runner to break 23-seconds her last 400m. MAYSOON was sound ridden colder, note that. ESTONIAN PRINCESS kept closing and is fitter now. They ran 1-10.24 for 1200m off a strong speed, 34.88 1st-600m.
Race 4 saw CLUSTER storm over them from a clear last on the turn, yes the tempo was there (47.82 1st-800m) and he had match fitness on BULL POINT who seemed to really dig in once he saw CLUSTER, two quality 4yo’s, they ran 1-23.34 here and ran by a handy one in NINTH LEGION who, as expected, improved lengths drier, liked the run of JETSET LAD here in fourth, wide no trail then quinella sailed by, he was coming back at them on the wire and is proven over further. ZEPHYRON did enough.
Race 5 and HE’S YOUR MAN onto drier ground (tick), ridden colder (tick, tick) was strong! Loved the run of KINGDOMS from the back here (best closing splits) and a couple of roughies, DEANE MARTIN and LUCKY CHAPPY were bound sound in 3rd, 4th. LA AMISTAD the disappointment, she was ridden close, and 2nd-up, not sacking yet. CEMTIC PRINCE is going well for touch easier…
THE FORGIVE FILE:
BRITALIA KATE (wide), WORLD WIDE (early check/ still prefer wetter), LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY (should have finished closer), AL AHMAR (covered ground), ALL CERISE (railed/ worst ground/ then copped check!), LIBERTY’S CHOICE (back and wide), WEINHOLT (also back/ wide and had 58kg), KIRRAMOSA (went inside rail), LAIDBACK LARRY (cardiac arrythmia), MISS PROMISCUITY (stayed on rail), SHAMALIA (back/wide), BRING ME THE MAID (no luck key stage!) and BETTER LAND (wide/ worked).

Gator

Our man, David Gately, again proved why he is regarded by many as ”the best in the business” on Saturday at Flemington and Rosehill.

He not only nailed the Quaddie in BOTH states, he had the BIG-6 at Flemington in his Top-Rated Runners section and it paid a massive $27,000+

He found GREAT value winners Top-Rated; BRAMBLES ($8 bet), RICH ENUFF ($7 – labeled a ”special”), LATE CHARGE ($5.5) plus COMMANDING JEWEL and gave MERION a huge push ($17 was bet) in the race he had CHIVALRY (just missed/ quinella paid huge) on top…

Add to those, AFLEET ESPRIT and CHAUTAUQUA in his tips.

Oh, Sydney punters were not left out either: HALLOWED CROWN was top-rated in Golden Rose; REFLECTANCE was tipped at $9 when the G1 email went out as Best Value Bet Of The Day and CATKINS (Bet Of The Day) saluted.

Get on board with THE BEST… for just $34.99 per month (works out $8 per week)

GREAT VALUE !

PLEASE NOTE:
All ratings for FLEMINGTON are for GOOD/ DEAD track. Rail is back to TRUE. Was 10m here last meeting (9/8) and those away from the inside rail had the advantage. Expecting even racing with no disadvantage to run-ons.
In Sydney it is ROSEHILL. Ratings are for DEAD/ SLOW track. Rail is TRUE. Was 6m here 30/8 on very wet ground, the track played well, most avoided being hard on the inside rail however winner’s of races 1 and 8 came from well back and saved ground near inside!
BET OF THE DAY (Melb)
FLEMINGTON – Race 2 No.5 – MARKSMANSHIP – Was 7-weeks between runs into Heatherlie when beaten by two talented stayers in fast time (.8 outside track record), back to peak fitness now, maps beautifully and ticked the dry ground box needed last time
BET OF THE DAY (Syd)
ROSEHILL – Race 6 No.1 – CATKINS – Resumes. Excellent trial untouched in fast time. Won 4 of 6 fresh and nutted Steps In Time this track/trip fresh last prep. Very well weighted this scale with 58kg. Surprised is ”black” odds. Top pick!
BEST VALUE BET OF THE DAY ROSEHILL – Race 8 No.5 – REFLECTANCE - Crowded/Checked key stage fresh then really hit the line in fast time (off great trial) then squeezed out here latest, picked-up and again attacked wire in Cluster/ Weinholt race. Sits closer here 3rd-up to 1400m and happy on top and great value/overs at $9 mark.
BEST EACH-WAY BET OF THE DAY
FLEMINGTON – Race 6 No.5 – RICH ENUFF – Outstanding win 1st-up, had to be used up to lead, then raced away and stopped the clock .88 outside the course record, a new season 3yo, at start No.2. First go straight and this race has more depth but happy to tip off that!
BEST ROUGHIE OF THE DAY
ROSEHILL – Race 5 No.8 – LUCKY CHAPPY – Also went very nicely fresh in on-pace race (good late splits) when 2L off Greatwood (then won) and now has 3.5kg swing. Home OK 2nd-up given he is not wet tracker and only went up 100m… Now to 2000m. Come up $21. Overs!
Lay Of The Day:
FLEMINGTON – Race 6 No.2 – BRAZEN BEAU – Good 3yo in great race, liked the trial, but cannot come in as clear fave in this hot race.
TOP-RATED RUNNERS:

FLEMINGTON

Race 1 – 3YOF SWP – 1100m
  1. MORE RADIANT – Resumes. Went very well in recent jump out. Just missed Bring Me The Maid on debut in high-rating race then back/wide yet still closed for 4th to Slipper quinella Earthquake/ Mossfun at start two. Maiden but top-pick.
  2. 1 – SABATINI – Produced big finish to win Quezette Stks and that race rated well relative to males on the day. Kept fresh suits as she stays at the 1100m, add to that straight track often offsets the need for further ground.
  3. 12 – WHITE HOUSE LADY – Bolted in on debut on heavy despite betting drift. Scratched last week for this and worked very well MV last week. Talented, obviously.
  4. 11 – TYCOON PERI – Resumes. Thrashed Shaf fresh in May who then won by a space off nice jump out. 3rd was Nicoscene who then won MV. Wary!
  5. 3 – AFLEET ESPRIT – Did win well MV last time at 1200m and reeled off 11.29 last 200m, one of the day’s fastest, comes back to 1100m only little query but winning hope, wide draw a plus for swooper.
Race 2 – Girls Day Out Hcp – 2000m
  1. 5 – MARKSMANSHIP – Was 7-weeks between runs into Heatherlie when beaten by two talented stayers in fast time (.8 outside track record), back to peak fitness now, maps beautifully and ticked the dry ground box needed last time.
  2. 8 – LORD DURANTE – Did some early work then really made Bagman stretch to beat him at first try 2000m last time, Bagman then closed well and finished on heels of top-level G1 performers Hawkspur and Royal Descent last week at WFA. Likely leader. Been up a while the only query.
  3. 4 – JACQUINOT BAY – Worked home OK fresh then only up 100m 2nd-up and wasn’t far off Mourinho (then G2 WFA placed in Dato) and finished right behind St Jean (so good winning last week). The value?
  4. 8 – TRADE COMMISSIONER – Jumped quickly to 1700m 2nd-up in Heatherlie and had sound late splits, he was 4L off Marksmanship, is fitter, has .5kg advantage, and a case!
  5. 1 – MASKED MARVEL – His 1st-up run in that Heatherlie was hardly any great guide. Much better suited 2000m, was running well G2 and G3 races at WFA in Sydney at this trip last prep.
Race 3 – Hcp – 1700m
  1. 1 – BRAMBLES – Went wide WFA fresh and closed well off the slow speed then beaten by good one in Heatherlie (.8 off track record), 3rd was Marksmanship who ran in previous for reference. The 60kg is the query.
  2. 9 – CORREGGIO – Good return 2nd to Eximius (since run well) then well-backed at big odds in 2nd-up but was clear forgive file member (internal bleed) in that Brambles race, has good 3.5kg weight swing.
  3. 7 – SIGNOFF – Just never got a serious crack at them 1st-up. Much better suited 1700m, big track and is fitter anyway. Exciting prospect!
  4. 3 – PRINCE OF PENZANCE – Did more than enough fresh (3rd-fastest last 400m) and did win well MV 2nd-up last prep at 1600m. Suited fitter/further here also.
Race 4 – Listed Living Legends 3YO SWP – 1400m
  1. 2 – CHIVALRY – Awesome fresh win Caulfield/1200m and he has looked a 1400m/1600m horse from day dot. Track spies tell us he has come on, big (home) track to suit. Happy to stick!
  2. 11 – DIVAN – Debut was excellent given the early check, he clearly should have beaten Merion who then sat wide and was good MV to Rich Enuff in fast/high-rating race. Went back last 1st-up off modest speed and ran over them! Measures up for mine.
  3. 3 – MERION – Wide off hot speed and still hit line fresh behind Rich Enuff who was .88 off the track record, he went super. Of course he beat Divan here in Spring at this trip.
  4. 5 – ZEBULON – Freshened. Charged late in top trial win. Top debut without luck to Zeletto then impressed this track/trip. Caught wide last time, and went very well.
  5. 1 – ZULULAND – Limited luck in Vain Stks fresh and went through line nicely. Didn’t quicken last time but closed late, he clearly was looking for ground, gets that here out to 1400m. Won Sires here in Spring beating Awesome Rock.
  6. 6 – FORGIVE AND FORGET – Must have case on Chivalry form too.
Race 5 – G2 Let’s Elope Stks – Mares – 1400m
  1. 1 – COMMANDING JEWEL – Was trialling brilliantly before the excellent fresh run when she just missed Gregers/ A Time For Julia who had sat 1-2 in the run, look at the replay, 50m after line she was 1L in front of them. Unbeaten 2nd-up, in fact, she won this race 2nd-up last year with 57kg beating Catkins. Top pick.
  2. 6 – SOLICIT – Resumes. Won Vanity Stks this track/trip fresh last prep in fast time. Thrashed Forever Loved into 3rd in Vinery in Sydney, that girl was almost as good as Commanding Jewel in Cockram fresh so that ties her right in.
  3. 3 – GREGERS – Scooted home 11.3 and fastest last 200m all day fresh and did it easy. Had to dig last time but won again and raced there like a mare looking for 1400m now.
  4. 2 – DEAR DEMI – Liked her last 100m fresh in Cockram Stks. Was 3.9L off them in G1 Coolmore 2nd-up last prep off very wide run. Proven herself better than mares grade. In this too.
  5. 7 – GIG – Back to mares grade off a couple of superb runs at WFA VS males, in latest she had fastest closing splits of the race, in a G1… What a ripper.
Race 6 – G2 Danehill Stks – 3YO – 1200m
  1. 5 – RICH ENUFF – Outstanding win 1st-up, had to be used up to lead, then raced away and stopped the clock .88 outside the course record, a new season 3yo, at start No.2. First go straight and this race has more depth but happy to tip off that!
  2. 12 – AWESOME ROCK – Top return Caulfield when peaked late and just about as good as Chivalry (form ref.?). Stays 1200m but drawn well off inside for Oliver to swoop. High class. Can win.
  3. 15 – GALAXY PEGASUS – Streeted rivals in maiden on debut and ran sizzling time, in fact, he was 9.2L faster than older BM64 horses later in the day! Worked very well midweek. Serious 3yo it seems.
  4. 9 – LOOKS LIKE A CAT – Resumes. Gelded/Blinkers on. Trialling well I hear. Probably should have beaten Almalaad/ Brazen Beau in G1 before spell. Big watch.
  5. 3 – GET THE NOD – Neat fresh win beating Stingray who was then good with little luck to Chivalry/ Awesome Rock so form lines tie in well. Great race!
Race 7 – G1 Makybe Diva Stks – WFA – 1600m
  1. 3 – BOBAN – Sat wide no cover in Memsie yet still attacked the line, thought he went super. Fresh run prior was excellent after the bad start and ran home terrific splits. Beat It’s A Dundeel in G1 at this trip 3rd-up last prep. Has gate 4 today.
  2. 9 – DISSIDENT – Love the way he put the race away 1st-up in Memsie, he ran great overall timer and sectionals of a serious racehorse, despite racing keen early. Just needs to repeat that. No issue 1600m and again gets good run.
  3. 6 – PUISSANCE DE LUNE – Wide/Stuck well fresh then sound home in Memsie when staying at 1400m. Now gets to mile, 3rd-up and looks ready to fire.
  4. 2 – FAWKNER – Resumes. One run at 1200m in Autumn was lovely work. Became G1 class last Spring and measured up at WFA. If right, he can win.
Race 8 – G3 Bobbie Lewis – 1200m
  1. 11 – CHARLIE BOY – Resumes. Excellent trial in Sydney, won untouched. Won Danehill Stks this track/trip fresh last prep then wasn’t far off El Roca in Guineas Prelude.
  2. 14 – TANGO’S DAUGHTER – Resumes. Nice jump out win herself. Her last fresh run was here (1100m) when good 3rd to Anatina and Gregers, they both measured up very well in G! sprints in Melbourne (to Lankan Rupee – Oakleigh Plate) and Sydney (Galaxy).
  3. 1 – SPEEDINESS – Resumes. Attacked line in latest jump out. Slow out/Closed well 3L 6th to Appearance at WFA fresh last prep. Won this race last year with 56.5kg. Beat El Roca home in G1 WFA in Sydney and meets him better relative weights.
  4. 3 – FLAMBERGE – Strong win fresh with 58kg in good time. Wide/Good 5th to Lankan Rupee in Oakleigh Plate 2nd-up last prep, finished behind Gregers. Has come of age.
  5. 16 – CHAUTAUQUA – Resumes. Another going super at trials. Went to a new level last prep. Likes wet but not just a wetty…
Race 9 – Listed Sofitel Stks – 1400m
  1. 18 – LATE CHARGE – Top pick if here and not the G1.
  2. 14 – UNDER THE LOUVRE – Has this serious finish on him! Flashed late again last time and ran 11.08 home which was fastest last 200m all day, he ran by Henwood (then won) and missed Trust In A Gust (huge last week). Now to do it at 1400m is all…?
  3. 13 – OUR HAND OF FAITH – Good return MV in same race as Under The Louvre and had limited luck at times. Won twice 2nd-up (including last prep) then measured up in G3 class. He can win here.
  4. 8 – DESERT JEUNEY – Nice return (best late splits despite limited room) and Hard Stride form ties in through Under The Louvre and Co. easily. Much better suited 1400m.
  5. 7 – BRAVE CENTAUR – Worked early/Ran well fresh at WFA in NZ. Goes forward here (gate 1) and may get soft run. Check astern but fancy measures up.
  6. 17 – BY THE GRACE – Better suited 1400m and on the Late Charge form… He goes in, has 2kg swing too.
ROSEHILL
Race 1 – F&M BM73 – 1500m
  1. 2 – COPY – Was month between runs last time and too strong for Sensualism (coming off a win) on heavy, taking line through My Sabeel (then won by a space and beat good one in Benetta) hoping it’s the right form.
  2. 6 – SENSUALISM – As stated, was no match for Copy last time but has 2kg swing and won well prior with My Sabeel form. Drier ground and 1500m non-issue.
  3. 8 – VILLA SPLENDIDO – Hit the line ok fresh in total on-pace race then stayed 1200m 2nd-up, again closed well. She may be looking for 1500m now, she did fade her one go 1600m but was up on-speed that day and that semi-inconclusive.
  4. 1 – BRING A RING – Had backing last time but raced wide no cover and forgive, was not far off Pyrrolic (then stretched St Jean) and Hard Stride (then beat Moment Of Change) prior!!
  5. 4 – WINGS – Won ok provincials latest with big weight. Two previous runs in town when flashed late said a win was near. Back to 1500m a query but chance.
Race 2 – BM80 – 1800m
  1. 11 – LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY – Has come back well. Really hit the line fresh at 1300m then worked home well 2nd-up behind Black Revolver/ The Alfonso in deeper BM80 than this. Was 2.6L off Entirely Platinum in March (4th-up) despite a bad start.
  2. 5 – COCKTAIL TIME – Too wet last time, forget that. Bloused by the flying Bouzy Rouge at 1600m prior on dry and in light for in-form apprentice, and maps well, goes close.
  3. 12 – MARTIAN – Returned a gelding Hawksbury and ran home hard at the 1400m, much better suited out to this trip and has more upside than anything in this race…
  4. 3 – SPECIFIC CHOICE – Hardly Mr Reliable. didn’t fire last time. Closed well behind Bouzy Rouge/ Cocktail Time prior and thrashed Saigon Tea before that… Ability is there.
  5. 10 – CLEANSING ALE – Another who can improve sharply here away from bog tracks. To 1800m no issue. Chance.
Race 3 – BM85 – 1200m
  1. 3 – WEINHOLT – Slow out then raced wide no cover two-back and clear forgive file member, out to $13 last time, went back, saved ground and beat a good one in Cluster. Up to 58kg a query but his Long John form is better than benchmark grade.
  2. 4 – WOODBINE – Resumes. Sat off speed in trial and won it quite well. Overcame trouble to win BM75 Randwick fresh last prep and was 1.8L off Dissident/ Atlante in a Hobartville Stks 3rd-up.. That looks fantastic form now!
  3. 9 – MURDER OF CROWS – Had his chance for mine last time but Weinholt was better, as was Cluster, and Mount Nebo. The fresh win prior was terrific, in good time. Given 2kg swing on Weinholt and now being 3rd-up he must have a case.
  4. 8 – BOSS LANE – Resumes. Trialled nicely (while back now). Been avoiding very wet tracks it seems. Was 3.6L 4th to territory fresh last prep then was not far off Sidestep and Shamalia.
  5. 7 – OH SO ADORABLE – Bloused on the line fresh then caught wide on very wet last time and that was clear forgive run. Expecting better.
Race 4 – Theo Marks – 1400m
  1. 5 – BULL POINT – Trialled well then big betting drifter fresh on very wet (they tried to scratch but were refused), he closed well behind a good one in Terravista. Was 1.3L 4th to Moment Of Change in G1 at WFA 2nd-up last prep at 1400m.
  2. 8 – CLUSTER – Restrained tail, came wide and flew home last time, huge run! Winner Weinholt saved the ground (and has form around G1 horses, as does this guy!). Little between them for mine.
  3. 4 – KIRRAMOSA – Good return in slowly run Missile Stks when tough tight key stage, her run ended late anyway I fancy. Won 2nd-up last prep. Beat Solicit later in the prep and that form reads well. Has a case.
  4. 2 – NINTH LEGION – Too wet for him fresh. Trialled well prior. His latest run on Dead ground was a closing 3rd to Terravista/ El Roca… Hmmm.
  5. 3 – ZEPHYRON – Resumes. Trialled well. A hope if here and track not too wet.
Race 5 – Kingston Town Stks – 2000m
  1. 8 – LUCKY CHAPPY – Also went very nicely fresh in on-pace race (good late splits) when 2L off Greatwood (then won) and now has 3.5kg swing. Home OK 2nd-up given he is not wet tracker and only went up 100m… Now to 2000m. Come up $21. Overs!
  2. 6 – LA AMISTAD – Lovely return at 1600m in Rowley Mile. Much better suited 2000m and fancy she can win a big race this prep. Bit scared one more run but like her!!
  3. 5 – GREATWOOD – Good Oz debut to Entirely Platinum then well-rated, handled heavy and impressed last time at nice odds. More pressure on paper today and weights against but still on the up, clearly can win.
  4. 1 – MR O’CEIRIN – Wasn’t far off them in Heatherlie and they were .8 off track record. Was 9-weeks between runs too. Has 59kg but has form around Streama at WFA and Moriarty and won 5 of 9 at 2000m.
  5. 4 – HE’S YOUR MAN – Nice fresh win then well backed but could not reel in Greatwood last time. 2000m no issue and better than heavy ground a likely plus too.
  6. 9 – CELTIC PRINCE – Caught wide last time and battled well. Fitter. Value hope too… In wider bets.
Race 6 – Sheraco Stks – Mares – 1200m
  1. 1 – CATKINS – Resumes. Excellent trial untouched in fast time. Won 4 of 6 fresh and nutted Steps In Time this track/trip fresh last prep. Very well weighted this scale with 58kg. Top pick!
  2. 4 – NEENA ROCK – Resumes. Slashing trial herself early August. Went better than Dissident in the trial. In quinella 10 of 14 in NZ. Wary!
  3. 6 – SHAMALIA – Resumes. Won 3 of 6 in first prep and form around her has been strong since. Good on-pace trial 2nd (gap to 3rd) and looks to have come on…
  4. 10 – MISS PROMISCUITY – Loomed a bit fresh and was not far off Pyrrolic and Hard Stride (mentioned hot formlines earlier) then doubt was in A-ground on inside rail latest, and good. Kept fresh. Drier the better?
  5. 2 – CHINTZ – Resumes. Sat off hot speed in trial and held ground well. Another Kiwi with top record at home but all her form is 1400/1600m.
  6. 7 – BELEL DE COEUR – Another resuming, her Cosmic Endeavour form last prep I like. Can run well too.
Race 7 – G1 Golden Rose – 3YO – 1400m
  1. 3 – HALLOWED CROWN – Top return win over the top of them in key lead-up race. Still unbeaten and did impress on debut on Dead ground so doubt is just a wetty. Stack of hopes, leaning his way.
  2. 12 – BETTER LAND – Wide no cover fresh yet still attacked line then badly baulked twice in Up And Coming Stks and still was only .8L off them, runner-up Panzer Division then beat handy 3yo’s last week.
  3. 6 – NOSTRADAMUS – Good strong win fresh in race record time then well backed 2nd-up but had poor recovery rate and rider said didn’t handle very wet ground. Expecting much better here!
  4. 1 – ALMALAD – Struggled on heavy fresh with 60kg. Back to level weights, back to dry. His G1 win before spell was terrific given start three, jumping 1200-to-1600m. Not sacking.
  5. 13 – BRING ME THE MAID – Nice return win on wet. Terrific in Golden Slipper before spell. Don’t see 1400m as any issue for her. Fillies do not have great record in the race but tipping she runs very well here.
  6. 11 – SARAJEVO – Still new/learning and good late last time, will relish 1400m it seems. Goes in.
Race 8 – BM80 – 1400m
  1. 5 – REFLECTANCE – Crowded/Checked key stage fresh then really hit the line in fast time (off great trial) then squeezed out here latest, picked-up and again attacked wire in Cluster/ Weinholt race. Sits closer here 3rd-up to 1400m and happy on top.
  2. 8 – BLACK REVOLVER – Deserved the win last time (finally found race with tempo) and impressed, luckless behind Weinholt a few runs back (ties in) and back to 1400m here not a major issue. Drier the better.
  3. 7 – MOUNTAIN VIEW – Nice return in fast Target In Sight race, he was home 11.5 last 200m, Reflectance was 11.54. Quick jump to 1400m will suit him. Can win.
  4. 11 – MARWOOD – Sound in high-rating race latest to Late Charge (form ref?) and jar out of track here, to 1400m are pluses. Late Charge has run well in a G1.
  5. 9 – TONOPAH – Resumes. Nice late work in trial. The 1400m fresh should suit off genuine speed on paper here.

He found GREAT value winners Top-Rated; BRAMBLES ($8 bet), RICH ENUFF ($7 – labelled a ”special”), LATE CHARGE ($5.5) plus COMMANDING JEWEL and gave MERION a huge push ($17 was bet) in the race he had CHIVALRY (just missed/ quinella paid huge) on top…

SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:

Racing was at MOONEE VALLEY on Saturday on GOOD track with rail TRUE, there was a school of thought leader’s had the advantage but track played well to my eye with no pattern/bias.

Run Of The Day:

Our runners-up were enormous, they were ST JEAN and TAWTEEN but clear ‘’winner’’ for mine was TRUST IN A GUST in Race 9 who drew poorly, sat 4 & 5-wide no cover all the way, sustained a long (wide) run, yet still attacked the line only to be outbobbed.

The horse that outbobbed him was the smart ATLANTE who had the soft run in behind the speed, the split came and he accelerated nicely given he will be better over further than 1200m, he had Dissident form early last prep rememeber! Top return win. LUCKY HUSSLER got onto the back of Trust In A Gust, he did not quicken but did launch late, his 11.62 last 200m was race-fastest and one of the better late splits all day, first run for Weir and nice return him too. SOLSAY was honest on-speed, leader’s went 35.52 1st-600m (solid but not hectic speed). LION OF BELFORT had limited room key stage and did find the line, stable openly said pre-race he would be fitter too. Overall time: 1-10.45 (record is 1-9.29).

To the Dato Tan Chin Nam and THE CLEANER set the strong speed as expected (48.09 1st-800m) and kept going too well, he measured up to G2/WFA standard, albeit with match fitness on-side and ran 1-35.94 (record 1-34.78). Runner-up MOURINHO was forced wider than desired on the home turn yet ran home well for second, has come back well, now has to do it away from MV I guess. FORETELLER was left mile back when THE CLEANER upped the ante to the 600m mark then picked-up and really found the line, he was a sectional star clearly, his splits 600-to-400-to-200-to-home were: 11.32/ 11.59/ 11.97 (34.88 last 600m), excellent! LIDARI went wide/closed well. THE OFFER was another forced wide, he ran home 35.34 last 600m, his last 200m split was 12.23, it was a good return! STAR ROLLING the disappointment. There was 4L first to ninth so…possible query on the form??

Back to Race 8 and loved the win of ST JEAN who was a real sectional star fresh at 1500m, if there was a query here it was the fact he was only going up 100m to 1600m but he was too good, not only was he too good, his closing splits were fabulous when compared to a proven G1 performer like Foreteller in the Dato (same track/trip/day). This guy ran home 35.07 last 600m, the breakdown was: 11.31/ 11.79/ 11.97. For mine, the race ‘’rated’’ as well as the Dato, they went 48.57 1st-800m (3L slower than The Cleaner) and 1-36.2 overall (just .26 slower than The Cleaner/ Dato). PYRROLIC had the good run and took over but winner was too strong late. OUR VOODOO PRINCE was with the winner to the turn and travelling, he raced a bit tight then could not go with said winner with 6kg more but kept closing, he pipped FULGUR (honest effort) for 3rd. ZANBAGH hit the line (3rd-fastest last 200m) and wants further now. ANCIENT KING (4th-fastest home) did enough too.

To Race 6 and TAWTEEN impressed, she led at a good clip 35.11 1st-600m (so would have led older horses in Race 9 by a few lengths midrace) then gave a big kick, her overall time 1-10.7 was sound relative to those older horses. FORTICHE sat off the speed on the rail, stayed inside and was a solid 2nd. PITTSBURGH FLYER raced keen and covered ground, she went well given all that and has upside. PICKIN’ TIME was on the wrong leg according to her rider but did close well, keen to see her on a bigger track, only NOT A HAPPY CAMPER (mile back/ nice work late) had a faster last 200m split. BERIMBAU was back with NOT A HAPPY CAMPER and she too made nice ground, interestingly, BERIMBAU was the only filly to break 24-secs her last 400m but as stated, by the final furlong (200m) a couple were stronger.

The McEwen Stks saw the big boilover with ANGELIC LIGHT having the perfect sit on the back of LANKAN RUPEE, she still had to be good enough to run by him, and she did! She stopped the clock at 57.54 which was just .32 outside the track record. LANKAN RUPEE sat outside the leader ELOPING and they went 34.34 1st-600m (good gallop), he broke clear but was nailed, ELOPING with her 50kg held on OK for 3rd ahead of IT IS WRITTEN who was outsped at 100m but did run home well. CAUTHEN did enough but the fast-run 1000m was too much for him, UNPRETENTIOUS made the ‘Forgive File’, worth noting, his last 200m of 11.53 was the fastest all day, and he was held-up badly on home turn, hmmm.

Nice win from CAKEVA in Race 3 as he did peel out a long way from home, he ran good overall time of 1-31.87 for the 1500m and beat WAR POINT was strong his last 100m, he clearly wants further, he did race better with blinkers on. LOTION kept finding the line, WAR POINT was .17 stronger last 200m. SECOND BASE led until late, he will win races. Watch SOPHIE’S FINALE into something easier, something further, you may have a value winner??

THE FORGIVE FILE:

SPIRITED WILL (tempo against), TEXT ‘N HURLEY (ditto), FLAMIN’ MOGUL (raced poorly/ keen), SOPHIE’S FINALE (back/wide/wobbled turn/ still hit line!), THE MIGHT JROD (wide), WARWARICK (lame), UNPRETENTIOUS (back/ held-up badly), LADY TRICKSTER (too wide), UNDER THE EIFFEL (set a task) and MEMBERS JOY (back and wide/ wants 1400m).

In Sydney it was RANDWICK and another wet track. Rain on the day (again be wary relative times) and track went from HEAVY-8 to HEAVY-9. Those on/near speed won 6 of the 8 races however, almost all avoided the inside lanes.

Run Of The Day:

Honorable mentions go to WINX and TOYDINI but clearly, our ‘’winner’’ this week is LUCIA VALENTINA. She was back between runners and ridden along 500m out, she seemed to stumble in the ground then balanced-up and rocketed home over the top of her rivals despite a modest tempo! Outstanding return.

The tempo of the race (Race 7 – Tramway) was 49.96 1st-800m so as mentioned, they certainly did not go hard, the leader TIGER TEES went to the middle of the track and was gallant, but had no answer winner. TOYDINI was back and wide and did close, he is much better drier too, liked his return, so too RISING ROMANCE who was back (outside winner) then was left standing by her 150m from home but warmed up nicely late! MONTON was next/5th/honest. They ran 1-26.63 for the 1400m.

The Chelmsford Stks was Race 5 and HAWKSPUR returned to winner’s list, he had not won since this race (brilliantly) a year ago and had to really dig as stablemate ROYAL DESCENT clearly headed him on his inside, she was outbobbed right on the wire. Good tactical ride on the winner who will be competitive in big G1’s again it seems. BAGMAN (fitness edge), SACRED FALLS (had good run) and MORIARTY (kept closing) all crossed the line together behind said quinella, all are ticking over nicely. Time here: 1-39.32 for 1600m.

Race 6 was the Concorde Stks and WOULDN’T IT BE NICE came from back, off the strong speed, got the good run through and ran over NUCLEAR CLASS who had absolute run of the race. RAIN AFFAIR sat outside I’M ALL THE TALK up front and they gave each other little peace, both went well. DIDN’TCOSTALOT battled home well fresh but winner sailed by him. TARGET IN SIGHT was always a risk staying at 1000m and yep, badly run off his legs, he warmed up very nicely late when race was over, he wants further!! Time: 59.43 for 1000m.

To Race 3 and the impressive WINX, she was 1st-up at 1200m, looked like the run would improve her, yet her last 100m she came right away from some handy fillies! Her form in first prep was on dry ground too so doubt she is just a ‘wetty’. ALPHA MISS gave her all and pipped leader EARTHQUAKE for second, they didn’t go hard but EARTHQUAKE did not have much peace up there, she did not disappoint for mine. SULTRY FEELING sat up outside her and gave her all, there was only .3L between these three behind the winner.

In Race 4 PANZER DIVISION led all the way, he handles wet well obviously but connections tell us he will be even better when able to sit off them and chase. SHOOTING TO WIN was clear second-best (every chance) and LADY SHARAPOVA was the best closer here from midfield running 3rd, outside of her the race was all on-speed dominated so fancy she went very well. WASHINGTON HEIGHTS the disappointment here up in trip 2nd-up on heavy, off slow pace were key factors, leaning to forgiving him. Time: 1-25.69.

THE FORGIVE FILE:

MEMORIAL (seasonal complaint), JUNOOB (still too wet), CRITERION (went wide early), TARGET IN SIGHT (further please), VILANOVA (too close inside), HOOKED (too wide), GYPSY DIAMOND (midrace pratt/ found line ok), WEARY (pulled-up coughing) and DANESIRI (blew the start).

SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:
Racing was at CAULFIELD on Saturday on GOOD track with Rail was out 6m and there was no pattern/ bias evident.
RUN OF THE DAY:
Well, where to start? So many massive runs! Giving the honorable mentions this week to CHIVALRY and STIPULATE but the major prize goes to COMMANDING JEWEL who was 1st-up, went back along the inside then weaved through, ended up back on that inside rail and really went through the line, in fact, a short distance after the winning post she is a clear length in front of the two on-pace mares who quinellaed the race!
Let’s break it down further. A TIME FOR JULIA led and GREGERS sat up second, they ran 35.17 1st-600m (this was .25 slower than Late Charge who led in the restricted race earlier over same trip) and they kicked, ran 1-2, and ran 1-9.87 (exactly same overall time as Late Charge). COMMANDING JEWEL reeled off an 11.18 split 400-to-200m then an 11.68 last 200m, race-fastest. FOREVER LOVED was a touch tight straightening then found the line super into 4th (home 11.78) and DEAR DEMI came from the back, hooked out wide and she too found the line stylishly fresh (11.86). REAL SURREAL was holding her ground quite well when checked at the 100m and should have finished a bit closer.
Onto the G1 Memsie and the new season 4YO DISSIDENT was impressive! He was a touch keen early then had the good run but love the way he pounced on SWEET IDEA and put the race away, it was not a day for lightning fast times so his 1-22.72 overall, given an even tempo (58.59 1st-800m) was a good gallop! Terrific return. SWEET IDEA gave her all but had no answer when the winner descended. PUISSANCE DE LUNE kept finding the line 2nd-up off that injury break and did stay at 1400m, he was sound! SILENT ACHIEVER broke 11-seconds for her 400-to-200m split then was tightened-up late, nice return from her too. SERTORIUS made nice ground, his 11.45 last 200m was bettered only by one, GIG who ran an 11.34 and is a marvel.
Excellent win in the last to STIPULATE who just travelled so sweetly, he followed the right one, BRAMBLES and had the last crack, then raced by him and ran 11.4 last 200m (one of fastest all day), loved his last 100m, loved his overall time of 1-42.28 given that is just .86 outside the course record. BRAMBLES back from WFA was very solid, just found one better! MARKSMANSHIP measured up well onto drier ground but was every chance in 3rd, SINGLE was 4th (also every chance). Others of note: LET’S MAKE ADEAL (covered ground/ kept closing/ good), ARALDO (hit line nicely, his 11.68 last 200m was bettered only by the winner) and TRADE COMMISSIONER (sound late splits too/ fitter).
Back to Race 6 and how good was CHIVALRY here fresh-up, sat back at the tail 3-wide, still last into straight then produced a terrific finale, he was the only runner to break 34-secs last 600m (33.86) and his 11.36 last 200m was one of the fastest late splits all day, the leaders did not exactly fly either, CORNROW led them in 35.29 1st-600m (so tick slower than the on-pace race won by Gregers 35mins later) so that adds merit to the win. NORDIC EMPIRE sat midfield, joined in quick then did lay in but was only nutted near the line, he did have some match-fitness advantage I guess. AWESOME ROCK was back near the winner turning, he too charged home (34-flat last 600m/ 11.61 last 200m) and fancy his fitness gave out late, more to come! FORGIVE AND FORGET raced touch tight turning then found the line, he measured up well. ZULULAND did not have the dash of the winner but warmed up late, home 11.75, he wants further now. Overall time: 1-10.25
FLAMBERGE won Race 5 despite his 58kg and had a decisive margin on the line, no knock. RIFLEMAN ran hoem hard, his 11.7 last 200m was race-fastest. HARD STRIDE led in 34.78 and was honest as ever. VAIN QUEEN was a serious sob story! A few others made Forgive File here too. They ran 1-3.71 for 1100m here.
Quick note on Race 4 given LATE CHARGE was used up early, then had one annoying him outside yet kicked and won, he ran good time for the day as touched on, 1-9.87 off that 34.92 1st-600m. He has been G1 competitive and can go on thsi prep. PRECIOUS GEM flashed home after being restrained from the gate, her 11.3 last 200m was the fastest all day, she was stiff to miss the ”podium” for Run Of The Day honours!
THE FORGIVE FILE:
MISS INTERIORS (hampered key stage), NADEEM LASS (nearly fell 200m!), DIVINE CITY (wide/ midrace move), SIGNOFF (in traffic/ rider never fully opened throttle), PILLAR OF CREATION (wide/ no cover), PAIGE’S BOY (stopped in tracks/ did hit line), NEVERENDING VALLEY (wide, wider!), STAMINA (shuffled out of the race), FINAL JEST (very wide), VAIN QUEEN (shuffled back early/ badly blocked when about to launch), BRITISH GENERAL (wide/ held on well), O’MALLEY (wide/ wider turn/ ran well), SMACKDOWN (bad check 200m), STINGRAY (held-up badly/ only clear 150m), NOVEL DANCER (was holding her ground when checked badly), BONARIA (tardy/ raced tight), SINO EAGLE (too wide), BOBAN (wide no cover/ ran well), MOMENT OF CHANGE (injured) and CORREGIO (internal bleed).
In SYDNEY it was ROSEHILL and track went from HEAVY-8 to HEAVY-9, Rail was 6m. Track played well, the winners of the first and the last were on/near inside rail whilst other winners like Hallowed Crown swooped down the middle, be very wary using relative times given we had rain through the day and track cut-up a little.
RUN OF THE DAY:
Our runners-up this week are STOLEN KISSES and CLUSTER but have to go with HALLOWED CROWN who gave them a start, came to the middle and ran over them all, the early split of 36.89 was hardly low-flying yet he was too good for them.
He looks a star but I guess now has to do it on dry ground. He ran 1-12.91 and beat KUMAON who was alongside him in the run, winner hooked out wide whilst KUMAON went through the field, he was second-best run in it. YGRITTE sat 2nd and took over the lead, she was only collared the last 50m or so and was the only filly engaged. SARAJEVO closed well (was behind the winner 500m out – may need further now) and MODOC who was back there with him, also made up good ground for 5th. Winner clearly won the sectional star title, he was the only one to break 12-secs last 200m, he went 11.86. Worth noting, there was only 4L over the entire field here so….?
To Race 7 and GREATWOOD looked the only leader on paper and they left him alone, he was very well rated but was challenged straightening, he kicked in well and won well 2nd-up. BONFIRE sat just off him and found the line nicely, home 12.08 and race-fastest. HE’S YOUR MAN sat 2nd and was no match winner but just pipped for 2nd. On-pace trifecta. WISH COME TRUE saved ground/ made ground for 4th and best closer was OPINION (home 12.16) who has put together two good runs this prep now, both in on-pace dominated races. CELTIC PRINCE was wide/ good here.
In the last it was WEINHOLT who sat back on the inside and saved the ground, went right through inside them and held off CLUSTER who was restrained to last, swung widest and charged, big run, he covered a stack more ground than the winner and ticked the wet track box. MOUNT NEBO was wide no cover and joined in then was just no match late but others had it softer! MURDER OF CROWS kept finding the line after racing a bit keen, he was sound, but never beat MOUNT NEBO (wide) nor CLUSTER (sailed by him) so no sooking there. REFLECTANCE got left at the tail into home straight, all of a sudden CLUSTER pinched 3L on him, he did find the wire, in fact, his 11.92 last 200m was race-fastest. Time: 1-12.77.
Back to Race 5 and RUGGED CROSS, back to heavy ground, was too good for TOUGHER THAN EVER who had the softer run and was every possible, possible chance! EIGELSTEIN was sound home. LUCKY CHAPPY is ticking over nicely and at least has some upside this prep.. He’s probably the one I’d take from the race.
THE FORGIVE FILE:
CUBAN STAR (back/wide), TOHUNGA (too bad to be true), STOLEN KISSES (beaten by tempo), OH SO ADORABLE (wide no cover), NOSTRADAMUS (poor recovery/ wet), ALMALAD (too wet), TUPAC AMARU (bled one nostril), HOYLONNY (too wet) and REFLECTANCE (as mentioned).
