SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:

Racing was at MOONEE VALLEY on Saturday, track was DEAD-4 to GOOD-3 and rail was 4m. There was no pattern/bias evident and the track played extremely well.

RUN OF THE DAY: Stack of excellent runs this week, our runners-up were GIRL GUIDE and TRUST IN A GUST but have to give the major prize to RICH ENUFF who worked to lead early and run a slick 35.04 1st-600m (clear fastest of 4 x 1200m races, in fact, had his race been run at same time as the Trust In A Gust event, he would have been leading Laohu by around 9L with 600m to run), he then gave a huge kick and stopped the clock at 1-10.17 which was just .88 outside Miss Andretti’s course record, at his second start. Outstanding win!

…It is also worth noting the second and 3rd-horses were last and second-last at the 400m, they were FAST CASH (hit line hard – his 11:34 last 200m off that fast speed is good going and was race-fastest) and TURFANE (home 11:50). MERION was 4th despite covering a stack of ground, like the way he went over the line too, good return!

Race 8 was the Carlyon Stks and, as expected, they went mad up front here. That 1st-600m split of 33.15 off a standing start is flying, no shock it was left to those off the speed to run first four: ICONIC had the nice trail in midfield then sprinted quick, he ran 57.75 and was only .52 outside the 1000m track record. ANGELS BEACH should have won for mine, just held-up with no momentum at that key stage! Very good/Stiff. ANGELIC LIGHT blew the start, saved ground and was a top return herself given the start, add to that she did race tight early in home straight. SHAMAL WIND just didn’t get the room she needed, don’t think Craig Williams was ever able to open the throttle fully, she still savaged the line and ran race-fastest 11.37 last 200m. AFRICAN PULSE held on well after covering ground off strong speed. VILLA VERDE worked home ok after being forced wider than the ideal scenario. Great race.

Back to Race 3 and all honours to TRUST IN A GUST who sat 3-wide no cover, albeit off a modest 36.61 1st-600m, and toughed it out to score and nail SOLSAY who had sat up second. UNDER THE LOUVRE flashed late, he went 11.23 400-to-200m then 11.08 his last 200m which was the fastest all day, he has the finish of a group horse no doubt! Both OUR HAND OF FAITH (raced tight but others held him on the line) and HENWOOD made solid returns. Overall time: 1-10.81

Brilliant return win in Race 5 by GIRL GUIDE who sat up second and exploded clear and ran 1:10.85 for the 1200m, the 1st-600m split of the race was a solid 35.84 (roughly 4L quicker than Laohu in the Trust In A Gust race), she has come back in terrific order. JACINTA had the trail on her back, got the run, but was left standing by the winner, she beat everything else clearly and was well-backed. Outside of these two girls there was .7L covering 3rd-to-8th which says a lot, of those perhaps SPLASH OF MOET over further can win soon in touch easier grade. VICARIO had good late splits (and made forgive file).

Race 9 saw some very nice fresh runs! Winner was MOURINHO who had the nice run in transit and just beat stablemate HVASSTAN who railed all the way home from midfield, 3rd was THE UNITED STATES who came from well back and was forced very wide yet still rocketed late, he was unlucky to miss the podium for ”Run Of The Day” by the way! Yet another who flew fresh here was ST JEAN and he managed some of the better closing splits of the day, nice! ZANBAGH did more than enough, on/over the line she was strong too. Of the match-fit ones, FAST AND FREE led/boxed on ok and RUGGED CROSS kept closing but they have both been up a while now. Time: 1-32.16 for the 1500m.

THE FORGIVE FILE:
COOL HERO (lame), WROTHAM HEATH (moral beaten), POST D’FRANCE (limited luck key stage but jury is out), ACADEMY JACK (found traffic, again!!!), ROYAL MEPHISTO (back/ found trouble), VICARIO (ran out of room/ equal fastest last 400m split still), BENENDEN (4-wide no cover), CAVEKA (still not out), ORUJO (wide on strong speed), MINAJ (too much pressure), KENCELLA (too much pressure/ didn’t handle ‘Melb way’ too well either), STREETS AWAY (wide) and MOBACO (very wide).

In Sydney it was RANDWICK and track was HEAVY-9 down to HEAVY-10. They pretty much all avoided the inside rail in the home straight, a number of winner’s were able to sit deep. There was rain through the day so tread warily with relative times.

RUN OF THE DAY: Honourable mentions to GREEN BERET and CRITERION but have to go with TERRAVISTA who sat wide just off the speed then put the race away very quickly straightening, he ran an 11.2 split 400-to-200m on the heavy, he was super-impressive first go genuine wet.

He ran 1-12.39 off a 36.29 1st-600m and is in for a good prep. The others: IN CAHOOTS was a solid second off some nice trial form and beat the others clearly. BULL POINT worked home well late to just grab the third, his 12:10 last 200m was just 2/100ths of a second off that of the winner and stable did try and scratch him pre-race (denied – no track downgrade). MONTON was quite good too, especially given he was closer to those inside lanes. MORIARTY made a sound return here too, home 12:28.

TIGER TEES absolutely controlled Race 6, he led at tick under 51-seconds his 1st-800m and kept kicking on his favourite (wet) track, those resuming all finished in a line behind him: ROYAL DESCENT (on-speed inside leader/ kept giving!), CRITERION (had room between quinella and loomed a bit, his run ended last 100m, liked his return), SACRED FALLS (came wider/ battled well all way) and HAWKSPUR (sat wide off pace – same spot as Terravista – and was also good). WEARY had no hope off this tempo, he and HAWKSPUR actually had equal fastest last 200m, 12:48. Overall time: 1-27.73

Back to 3yo’s and Race 3 firstly, what a horrible watch! LIBERATION pretty much ruined the race by running out sharply a few times, he still only went down a head, he was one of three or four who could say they most unlucky not to win, to my eye, he threw it away! SCISSOR KICK (who doubt loved wet by the way) got the clear run and nailed PANZER DIVISION who also had clear air inside the main rivals. VALENTIA copped one baulk then kept closing. BETTER LAND was run off the track, twice, as was MEURSAULT… Ugly watch. Be wary this form, obviously! Time: 1-18.78 for 1300m.

The girls did battle over 1200m in Race 4 and BRING ME THE MAID was too classy, she sat off them and travelled sweetly, MEMROIAL made a real race of it as they straightened but winner was stronger late, fancy he run ended late too, winner did carry the 57kg and runner-up had 54kg so…. CLOVER LANE was a sound 3rd, she still has upside to her, jury is out on NAYELI. Time: 1-12.37 off 35.89 1st-600m.

To Race 8 and DIAMOND OASIS survived a big betting drift, he did a good job coming from off midfield and weaving through, he nailed GREEN BERET who had led, inside a line of 4, with 61kg, and was the only survivor left of those speed runners, big effort! MOUNT NEBO had mixed luck but the quinella did hold him that last 50m. Nice finish again here from WOULDN’T IT BE NICE, his 12:04 last 200m was clearly race-fastest, MISS ALIBI ran home quite well also (home 12:28). Overall time: 59.13 off 35.29 1st-600m.

THE FORGIVE FILE:
LAIDBACK LARRY (wet/ 61kg), COCKTAIL TIME (too wet), BETTER LAND (oh dear!), MEURSAULT (taken off track too), JUNOOB (no guide), WEARY (tempo gave him no hope), KRISTY LEE (railed/ worst ground), DIAMOND DRILLE (thumps), THUMP (cardiac arrhythmia) and IT’S POETS DAY (4-wide on-speed)
